First the Bioware doctors, now this. These guys who are as famous as you can get in this industry. Of course, I don't know if he's retiring or doing his own thing.

Indie games are meant for casual gamers~ im too hardcore for that.
Anyhow, this guy has certainly had a storied career in video games. Though I would not go as far as to say people like him leaving is going to result in the decline of AAA games. Fresh talent is always developing in the games industry.
