Thoughts on the 2012 US Presidential Election

Let me first start off by admitting that I did not watch the first debate, and I don't plan to watch any of them. It's just two guys avoiding the questions being asked of them, and not giving any straight answers. Furthermore, there's only two candidates present, which really bothers me. So I guess you could call it a boycott on the debates for those reasons. It also pisses me off that campaign ads on TV are nothing but attacks on the opposing candidate, and there is no real "pros and cons" for each candidate, only "here's why you shouldn't vote for that guy." And again, there's a lack of third-party candidates running TV ads.
The glory of our political system is that if you don't agree with one extreme or the other, that's your choice. But at the same time, you don't have to be stuck with whatever other people choose for you. If you can find enough people that agree with you, you can do something about it. Start your own political party, circulate a petition, whatever. Start a movement for change. If you can convince the right people, things will get done for the better.
Now, don't get me wrong. In no way, shape, or form do I consider myself a political activist. I like to believe that I'm right in the middle of the political spectrum. I don't agree with either of the major parties that dominate our government. What am I doing about it? Well, for one thing, I've been researching third-parties that already exist, and comparing my beliefs to theirs. I've also found myself doing things like this, where I ramble about my political beliefs in an attempt to inform the masses that they don't have to settle with what's given to them. I hear a lot of people making the same complaints that go through my mind. The difference is, they usually end their monologues with "I guess I'll just not vote" or "I guess I'll vote for the lesser of two evils." This leads me to believe that they are not aware of the other options, the "well-kept secrets" of the political world. Well, if you read this far, now you know.
The United States political system is NOT a "Red vs. Blue" issue. There are parties other then the Democrats and Republicans. We are not limited to only two options. More attention needs to be paid to the "third-parties" in the US. Our Democrat or Republican representatives disagree with each other simply because they sit on opposite sides of the spectrum, and we wonder why Congress never gets anything done. My profile picture is a purple square because I am neither a Democrat nor a Republican. I am proud to be an independent voter.
