Sex in video games and in here (A youtube and ramble combo!)

General
An interesting lecture on the nature of sex in video games.
You're approaching the mouth of a stream of concioussness, turn back now or just let the current sweep you away:
So I guess what's this is bringing to mind here, for me, is what happens when you have a genre (look, I had to pick a word) that is so deeply steeped in sexuality it's the porno punchline of your evening dramas? Is this redeemable in any form in the public eye? Do we want to be? I mean with our self love of drama, our need to weird people out for attention, and that strange Ellis Island like acceptance of that takes any kink as long as we can shove it into a furry form (or at least one that at least somehow alludes to an animal) then find the time to last out at it how do we have time to move towards anything other than 1000 directions at once? But it's a back and forth thing, it's nice to have a place where I can wear a badge of weirdness and get a grin instead of a glare. I like being able to still pretend, make stories, and heaven forbid art, just for the fun of it. I like seeing that given the opportunity anything can be commercialized and I ponder the next target commercial there a hoodie with cat ears is the next ripoff trend. So what do you kids think? In this sea of ears, tails, and horrible man-children where is this boat we call Furry (Once again, just picking a name here) heading?

FA+

And as for the fandom/community being steeped in sex, I wouldn't quite agree with that, or at least not in context. According to a lot of the polls I've been seeing, most furries don't consider the sexual aspect to be all that important. It's kinda like the internet in general... I mean, rule 34. And as for FA specifically, sex is so extremely prominant because pretty much everything is allowed here, and people will look at your art/read your stories especially if they find them useful... like for fapping... so a lot of people 'put out' persay just for
the recognition.
/wall of text.
Well a parallel I've seen is at the Texas Ren Fest (like I said, nerd). You hear the people who are in for the long haul saying, "This used to be just renaissance dress. Kings, queens, knights. Now we're got fairies, orcs, guys with steam junk on their backs, giant animals. Every year it gets weirder." I think it's the way these groups just tend to evolve.
I know I've heard it's not where it started. And I am exaggerating, but it's a loud voice and it attracts the attention. It may just be a vocal minority, but it's really hard to tell.
Though a more interesting idea for a Renaissance Festival: a friend said something about two guys dressing up as Doc and Marty from Back to the Future, and being all 'We've somehow gone to the wrong time!' XD
here in southern germany is a guy to be seen on emdieval faires who looks so close to Aragorn from the LotR movies he actually dresses alike, and tells people about his hobby, longbow making, shooting, and arrow-shifting.
some smaller RPG cons around here skip the entry fee for those who come in costume. one guy wentso far as to glue an IC chip to his forehead, and in his business suit he looked pretty much cyberpunk. :)
now I remember one guy who dressed as a drow elf. all black skin and a white wig. later that say some elderly people came in to see what all those young people are doing here... then they saw that drow, and probably went like, \"WTF? OMG!\" and left the building with a severe case of TMI...
Though... I wouldn't mind seeing a pic of the drow XD
Aufs nächste Riff, aufs nächste Riff!
Ein büschel Haare weht am Mast
Vom Knochenschiff, vom Knochenschiff!"
(SVBWAY TO SALLY, "Knochenschiff")
whatever. I also have the impression FF is more or less the fluff sieve of humankind, catching everybody who has been thrown out of every other fandom, mostly due to severe lack of social skills. and the will to gain them.
as Nauv has put it so nicely in his "What brought you to furry fandom?" strips: "Starfleet academy rejected my application."
the rest is here for the porn, for more porn, or to sell those guys porn...
a place where everybody is so individual it's amazing they are descended from humankind to begin with it's hard to find a lowest line, but this seem to lay in sexual intercourse in ranges between normal and way beyond everything ever thought up before. like, "to boldly fuck like no one ever fucked before him."
all the while I believe most exaggerated specimens/gender assets are only made because of fooling around, not because they mean it. I mean, Sonic with a wang the size of Big Ben™ including the bells? can't be meant real, now can it?
can it?
eh...
let's call Houston. we have a problem, methinks.
all in all, I have met quite some furries in the last couple years. they all had their issues, as I have mine. but the social outcasts unable to spell right if their lives depended on it, and never heard what personal hygiene is? they stay at home, or if they dare to crawl out of their holes, are blacklisted for conventions.
happened to the last one I heard about... ^^
I surely have missed your point. but, I wasn't sure what your message was above, somewhere along the line my grasp of english language failed me.
So are we the lowest common denominator, or are we just extremely accepting? Is it the fact we let some many different views in that allows people to equate the entire group with the worst of us? It true you can't make the issues black and white, but I like thinking about them from time to time.
And I think we are just apply to the internet it's purpose sometimes.
And careful you don't raise the ire of certain fetishists. It's hypersexuality, it's not that a piece of a equipment would in any way be actually practical. (I don't know someone out there may argue that with me.) But the idea of having something in such excess I'm sure has to have it's own appeal. And I've seen it as a gag myself, but it also has artists that have a reputation as being devoted to the subject matter. So I doubt it's one big joke. But I think it's imagination without boundaries. What do morals, societal norms, and maybe even physics deny you that you want to see? It's fantasy, so people tend to take the idea as far as they can.
I agree there are those who come from the wastelands, who everyone knows to avoid, but once again, we're a pretty accepting group. And one habit that is merely odd to some may be deathly frightening to others. So I guess it's a question of how accepting we all are on a personal level, as a group, and as our little cliques that always seems to form wherever people gather.
The fact is, I'm not looking to make a point, I'm just looking for a little discussion. Just to see what other people think. And I seem to be getting that. Thanks.
lowest common denominator,t hat was the term I was looking for. yes, sometimes I have a feeling it comes down to it. I am well aware that so many around here just like the artwork for it's sake, like animals in general, but never can, or will, identify with any animal-human hybrid work-of-fiction at all. I can live with that. I have no problem whatsoever with that.
then you 'meet' someone who doesn't seem to fit in whatsoever. can't decide on a fursona (neither able to say "I'm here for the artwork"), rambles around, goes onto everybody's nerves until you wnat to slap him on the forehead so he calms down a minute. talking sense into them? too much action. they never listen anyway.
as an example, there is someone at a german fur forum, who asked for permission for wearing an inflated suit of an anthro wolf at a convention. right after someone else was forbidden to do so, and tried to nonetheless, which made some people nervous. and he asked this in a thread where that other guy was discussed... page after page did we try to tell him that he wasn't allowed to do that on any con, but is free to do so at home. and he went all like, "you want to surpress me but I'll do it anyway. if you treat me like scum I can act like one."
in short, he never listened. or, he read what he wanted to read and acted upon it.
I am a rubberist myself as you know, and don't have anything against inflated stuff. but I never would go and shove these fetishes into the faces of People Who don't wanna Know™. why? I want to be left alone with my fetishes, and it's plain rude to do so. that has nothing to do with being surpressed or like.
zhis is where social skills come into play. and so many furries seem so bereft of them it's a wonder they survived kindergarten unharmed. or maybe they think on the net you don't need such. or, in furry fandom.
maybe we are too over-accepting. no, I don't want to judge people by their online appearance alone, but what can I do? from most it's all ever see.
btw. as long as one's fetish does not hurt anybody else I'm fine with it. unfortunately this mindset is rather rare around furries. which are SO demanding of tolerance. but unable to give tolerance themselves. seen it so many times...
and am guilty myself.
but, there.
I am happy to discuss with you a little longer, as long as my langauge skills keep up with it. :)
