EA is getting hit with a class action lawsuit. This is predicted to be the final nail in the coffin.
Basically, their sport games are their bread and butter. They lose or gain very little from acquired companies. Now, back in 2005, they made a contract with the NFL giving them exclusive rights to the players and their likenesses. This basically gave them a sports monopoly if you wanted to play with official players, which, if you buy sports games every year, is probably why you buy them. You want to play a sports game, you have to play EA's game or nothing at all - it's a monopoly.
However, being the greedy fucks they are, they decided to overcharge beyond the price of a normal game. This is fine in a competitive market, because if people don't like the value they're getting, they can just buy the competitor's product. Since they have a monopoly, they're the only ones in town, so they jacked up the price. This is actually illegal. It's like selling water to a man in the desert. Whoops!
This class action lawsuit entitles anyone participating to $6 for each new NFL game bought during a 7 year period. Now, that's not a lot per person, but it adds up if a hundred thousand people decided to get in on the action. 7 years is a lot of product sold. There's also a prediction that this will ripple out to NHL and NBA titles as well.
Don't be one of those people that go "PPfft, $6. Not worth my time." This isn't about the money. This is Electronic Arts. They are an evil company. They have acquired amazing game companies and destroyed them for profit. This is the chance to see them dissolved in kind. Even if you don't participate in the lawsuit or are ineligible, spread the word to others that can.

Hope they lose their monopoly and be forced to make a competing product again.
