Holy Smokes! Where have I been?!

General
Well, I'll tell you. Last couple months have been hectic, so Ill give ya guys a basic rundown. Warning you, this will be long as I haven't written a journal in a while so it'll be a bit rambly. =)
The Call
April, my mate,
erdenshire, gets contacted by a company for an interview. He starts with a phone interview, then does a skill assessment test, then before we know it, they are flying BOTH of us halfway across the country, putting us into a very nice hotel, paying for our food and transportation, all so they can interview him in person.
We get back, and the next day, they call him and tell him he's hired. Wooo! He starts at the beginning of June, so we have about 5 weeks to get packed.
The Move
Since Erdie's contract with Intel wasn't up yet, he couldn't start getting ready properly till the second week of may. Doesn't leave us a lot of time, neh?
Here's a problem. You have two furs who are also pack rats, who also happen to procrastinate once in a while, and you have a pretty bad combo. We didn't realize how much junk we had till we started sorting through it, getting rid of what we didn't need, and boxing up what we did. We ended up with 30+ boxes, many a decent size...Uh oh.
Well, we ran some math, moving from Oregon to Wisconsin, using a moving truck and having our friend drive us and fly back, with current gas prices....ouch. So we did the math on other options, and here's what we came up with :
Ship everything through Fedex
Travel by train.
Why train? Because while my fursona is cutely short, in reality I'm over 6'4" with a big frame...flying sucks for me, unless I get an exit row seat, and even then its not a happy ride. Plus, train travel was much cheaper, and we got to see the country through our window. It was very beautiful!
We shipped the boxes in groups of 8-10 on separate days, so that they'd get delivered on separate days, and headed off to our new home!
The Arrival
So, travel by train was awesome, if a bit sleep deprived. Comfortable but way too warm at night to sleep. We somehow managed to get a family room for almost 300 dollars cheaper than a tiny 2 person roomette, cause we loaded the website 'just' as it opened up.
We get to Chicago, and spend a couple hours hanging out with Erd's mother, who is all kinds of awesome. She brought us clothing, razors, wheels for our heavy heavy luggage that didn't have any, and gifts. She is 100 kinds of win.
We bus to our new home from Chicago : Madison, WI. Get picked up by our new roommates,
nowan and his mate. Great guys and very awesome friends. Our computers beat us here, but with no desks and no switches and routers to get us online properly, internet would have to wait.
We eventually get desks, get our room situated and computers online, and wait for our stuff to arrive.
Saturday, it says its in the city....but has a "delivery exception, delivery rescheduled"....wha?
All our packages have this, and at 7 am on Wednesday morning, Fedex calls us and tells us they'll deliver it on Saturday...SATURDAY?! They were annoyed we had so many boxes taking up room, and wanted to deliver them. We asked if they could just grab some of them and deliver them today, so, you know, we could get them sorted and out of the way?
Nope...instead at 8:30 pm yesterday, they came with EVERY LAST BOX WE HAD. Over 30 boxes! We spent 4 hours just getting things sorted, situated, and out of the way, since that many boxes basically blocked off most the living room here.
But we're finally moved in fully and settled in. I have my tablet, but I don't know if it survived the trip, we'll see in a few hours. If it didn't...I dunno, will have to get a new one I guess.
Anyways, enough rambling from me. Time for me to get some breakfast then make sure my stuff works. =D
