It seems some pet companies care more about $$ than your pet

"MORELS taste good in omelettes..."
*sighs* I usually don't have a problem with Costco's Kirkland products, but it seems that their version of Frontline flea prevention is lousy stuff. It not only doesn't work, apparently, it can also make your cat ill, even KILL them. Well fuck. I don't buy their flea stuff, but I do buy their knock-off brand human foods when we shop at places like Food4less or Superior. It makes me wonder; if they don't give a flying fuck about whether or not their product is killing people's beloved companions, do they have the same cynicism in regards to the things they make for human consumption? Honestly, where does it end?
I found out about this from
vinci_nicolaides and a journal she linked to... That journal is here: http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/3924091/ Further, some reviews on Amazon.com regarding this stuff: http://www.amazon.com/Kirkland-Sign.....vglnk-c2201-20 Some of the reviews from unhappy and worried people are heart-rending...
Spread the word, my minions! Companies that have such a disregard for life, human or otherwise, need to be held accountable for their actions!

montrosity's comments. He has some cogent things to say about how cost-cutting measures can be hazardous and why they affect us all when we keep buying their shoddy product all in the name of saving a buck. The manufacturing company wanting to "save a buck" trickles down to a store being able to sell the item for cheap, and then to you wanting to buy the cheap product, followed by the miseries that could happen when that product turns out to be bad for you or your pets. That's the only "trickle-down" theory that actually "works", and it's not to anyone's benefit but the company making the money off of you. Saving a buck can really turn into expensive medical bills that will potentially bankrupt you. Go for quality every time, if you can...

I have 2 cats and no longer use flea collars or anything of that sort. They are indoor though, so the risk is greatly less, but I was watching a show on animal planet that said dish soap kills fleas better then sprays, so bathe them with that but be sure to rinse super, super well.
I won't touch flea collars, except to maybe put one in the vacuum if I needed to do the house...
I know it's not just the knock-off companies who are skimping on ingredients: Purina is notorious for it, for example. I stopped buying their stuff, period. Diva gets Natural Balance, which she seems to love. I've even managed to get her to try some canned food, something she used to HATE before. Now, she'll pester me to feed her; I swear, that cat knows how to read a clock! (she gets noms in the morning when we wake up, and again at four in the afternoon)
"Just the latest one"- and that bothers me. It also bothers me that there seem to be more of these incidents, too. I don't know if it's just that I'm tuned in to them, now, or if there really are more bad situations happening, but the fact that most humans have poor hygiene to begin with and some work at the restaurants I eat at, or at the meat-packing plants where those restaurants are getting their meat from... I can't count how many times I've used the restroom only to hear someone finish their business (and by the smell, it was a number two) and then walk out without washing their hands! Ugh, I'd hate to eat at their table. *shudders at the thought- washes her paws dozens of times a day*
In other words, while it's important to complain to Costco and get them to dig deeper into where their product is coming from and what kind of standards are in place -- or not -- it's also important to realize that this may affect ALL the Frontline generics, not just the Kirkland brand.
Our kitty's been on Frontline for years with no problems, so that's what we're sticking with. There are plenty of safer ways to save money. :/
I haven't had to worry about this crud, since I use Frontline, too, but I thought it was good idea to spread the word in case any of my friends may have tried the stuff. Yeah, I think people should complain to Costco, and to any other company that's selling this drek as a flea-bane for kitties, 'cuz it's not. This stuff is for DOGS, people, and it's at the dosage-level for canines and will make your cat ill, maybe even kill her.
Amusing to note your comment about the omeprazole; I have to take that stuff because one of the meds I take for my depression gives me the worst acid-tummy- the kind of nasty acid-reflux where it doesn't matter what I eat, or how little. Blechh.
Dammit, it's about time that companies take some effing responsibility for their gorram product! It's like they don't realize they can make MORE money by being a producer of a trusted, honest product... Arrrgh. *head-desk*
I sell stuff, too, as do many folks on this site, and we do not fuck over our customers by selling them junk that could make them sick. Sure, I want to make $$$, but I'd like them to come back, you know. Not all businesses are shady, but too many of the truly BIG ones are. Sorry, but I think your 99% figure for bad businesses is an assertion that I'd love to see some real data on, other than hearsay.
(Pssst! Your tuatara lizard character is effing adorable...)
It's because majority of customers are idiots and half of the remaining ones give up/don't even try to stand up, then half of those that do get discouraged in the process or batted down.
The ironic thing is, it can be seen with PC games best. There used to be depth and quality. Now we get unfinished beta versions, with half the content stripped to be sold as DLC. But hey, majority of gamers nowdays are idiots who'd get lost without a HUGE arrow pointing them where to go in skyrim, RIGHT on the item they are meant to -find-. Soyeah
blahblahblahbblah rant, sorry ^..^
I used to work in retail, believe me, I've met some customers who were pure, distilled stupid. Happy days, happy days.
As for skyrim, two things:
1. You play dragonborn but it is NOT a dragon character. It's basically regular species with some dragon heritage who just happen to be dragon killers (there's reptilian species tho you can play)
2. It's only good if you do not care about a story and plot. Since that one is teeeeerrruble
Haven't aseen you in a while. *noses* How are ya?
And yay for visiting friends! Glad you're getting out and having some fun!
Stupid Costco Kirkland and any company that does shit like this, That should be illegal (willful endangerment of a life etc).
I hope you are doing reasonably well aside from that *hugs* I miss you.
