Maybe it was just the attitude of where I was but people seemed to think it was a waste of time in my last unit they had it. Especially if it was outside of duty hours, when not at work people want to be with their family or using their time as they see fit, not at a mandatory squad function...

"Roll Call" is one of many names I've heard of to describe this sort of thing. I was on the wing staff from 1996 - 2010, so I rather lost track of how information is dispersed in squadrons, but when I was with individual units I thought it was more personal to have the CC and shirt address the unit en masse to get information out. It felt more like they cared to address us directly rather than rule by fiat and information routing. So, yeah, I'm all for it.

THey want to make it a manditory standard. Not a some do, some don't deal.

My shop always had a form of roll call in the morning where the flight chief would talk about things and where we could pass along information as to what was done on the previous shift and whatnot.

I like the idea. The army still uses.

My squadron has rollcall every Monday and Friday at 0800. Of course, due to the ops tempo, usually only a very small fraction of the squadron is actually in the country to attend,

My first two bases we had a roll call at the squadron level every day. My last assignment we were isolated from the squadron, but did have a table meeting every shift. It did help with getting information out on daily and weekly activities along with briefings about some of the longer term stuff that most would just delete out of their emails.

We had the occasional (usually quarterly) Squadron Commander's Call at the base theater and weekly/daily Shop meetings depending on workload. I wouldn't count shift change debriefs unless the NCOIC also passed on squadron/wing/base info. We called them MUBS (More Useless Bullshit) when it was only routine stuff being pushed down the chain of command. Even the Senior NCOs used the term! LOL
