Uncle Sam's Massive Election
So 'Merica is having a massive election. Care or not, there is little doubt that the results will have implications for the rest of the world. What are your thoughts on this election? Are you voting? If not, who would you vote for? Who will win? Will this massive election screw us all?
I'm generally disheartened by American politics, but I do find it interesting. It's like watching a train wreck in slow motion.

I think a core cultural shift is what America really needs to go anywhere, but that's harder than getting any candidate into office. The lack of care for our fellow neighbor, in regards to civil rights and healthcare is ludicrous, in my opinion, for a country that claims vehemently that it is the biggest, the best, and the most free in all the known universe. If it wants to make that claim, it needs to start acting like it. I, personally, am not happy with the country until there are equal rights across the board, free healthcare a la Britain/France/Australia/Canada (if most of the 'developed world' can do it, why can't we?), and removal of corporate lobbyists/campaign funding/~corporations are people too~ law.
/gets off soap box
I'm afraid Romney will win though, and that'll possibly change life as we know it all over the world :c
I'm very proud that he's been the first standing president to openly affirm LGBT equality, but there's a long way to go, and he's fallen far short of his campaign promises regarding equality as well.
Having seen Gary Johnson come into the limelight has been exciting, because he's been the first third-party candidate I can recall (other than Ross Perot) who actually represented what a large segment of the American public actually wants. Do I think he can win this election? No, I'm not naive enough to believe it - but I am eagerly anticipating how much of the popular vote he garners.
With this election, it's all about not going back to old, failed policies, and about not expanding the government's arsenal against its citizens. As such, I'm urging all my friends in swing states and those who are moderate Republicans to vote for Obama, and for pretty much everyone else to vote for Gary Johnson.
Is this country on a better financial footing then four years ago? NO. China hold no less then four out of every ten dollars this Congress and Obama are spending. Obama blames Bush for the mess we have... BUT nothing is said about Senator Obama's bills that were passed into law that caused the housing melt down. Yes I do think this was planed on Obama's part, you just have to read his books to now see it.
Yes he came into office with a large deficits but it was still under half a trillion dollars. At it's peak in 2011 it was at 1.4 trillion dollars. Okay who racked up this? It wasn't Bush... because the pen was in Obama's hand not Bush's, yet Obama blames Bush for it.
Right now it is projected the US deficits is going to be around 1.1 trillion dollars... Why the drop? First off the House and Senate are not under Democrat control like in 2009 and 2010. In 2011 the GOP House started to take control of the out of control spending. That is the only reason the deficit is dropping.
You just have to look at the last four years and see what Obama has done to get an idea of what he is likely to do in the next four years, I don't like the idea of this country being handed over to the UN with the signing of a treaty that Hillery Clinton is herself pushing for. I know this country can not handle four more years with Obama in the office. Unless both the House and Senate are held by the GOP to keep the spending under control, and Obama in check.

I'll be honest I don't like Romney or Obama and would vote third party if I didn't think this country wasn't important. A vote for anyone but Romney is a vote to keep Obama in the office so I have to vote Romney and a straight GOP ticket as much as I hate to say it.
I'll be voting Obama probably. Fat lot of good it'll do me, living in Texas, but I think that's where my vote will go. He hasn't been the best president in the history of the US, but he has made an effort. The real problem the last 4 years has been an obstructionist Congress (google the phrase "obstructionist congress" and have a read) led by a group of people whose goal, above the welfare of the country, has been "to deny President Obama a second term." ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W-A09a_gHJc ) Compromise is what has made this country work in the past, but with half of Congress unwilling to do that, it's no wonder that Obama's policies have "failed." Obama could say the sky is blue, and half of Congress would filibuster in disagreement with him.
As is, I think what we've seen in the past four years has been the nation withstanding and beginning to recover from a major recession that began in 2007. It's a work in progress -- four years isn't long enough to fix everything -- and I think Obama's done enough to merit giving him a chance to finish what he has started (or attempted to start in a lot of cases).
On the campaign front, I have issues voting for a person that seems willing to change his stance on any issue depending on who is within earshot, all the while not giving specifics on anything he would actually do. "We'll sort that out with Congress after I'm elected" is not a valid plan. I don't like Romney's stance on environmentalism (i.e. opening up protected wilderness to oil drilling), I don't like his -- and his party's -- stance on womens' rights (although that has changed a number of times during the campaign, so who knows), science education/education in general, business deregulation, and cutting government funding for everything but the military. I don't think you can both cut taxes across the board and raise revenue, but that seems to be his plan (because anything else is socialism!!!!!1!). I also don't really care for the thinly veiled attempts at voter suppression that we've seen over the past 6 months, and I don't really like the not-so-behind-closed-door comments we've heard from Romney either.
The guy just seems shady to me, kind of like a car salesman. Tells you what you want to hear to get the car sold, but who knows what's going on under the surface. That's my two cents. Don't hate me. ;)
