You Call THAT Music?
General
I've been offline for a while since my best friend of 13 years is visiting, so I apologize for that.
In other news, I've been broadening my musical horizons and, also having a curious nature, am wondering what bands and styles my watchers prefer.
So, what bands/styles do you guys like?
I'm pretty firmly rooted in Rock, Classic Rock, and Classical (especially movie soundtracks), but lately I've been listening to a bit more electronic and heavier alternative (such as Killswitch Engaged). And while my dislike of "Nashville" Country is still strong, I don't mind Bluegrass or certain accoustic country songs - but it's hit-or-miss.
Just to name some favorites off the top of my head, some of my favorite albums are:
The Complete Lord of the Rings Soundtrack by Howard Shore
"Box of Pearls" a compilation of music by Janis Joplin
"Are You Experianced?" by The Jimi Hendrix Experiance
"Disreali Gears" by CREAM
"OK Computer" by Radiohead
The "Jurassic Park" soundtrack by John Williams
Led Zeppelin (paticularly albums 1-4)
There are many, many more and I'll likely kick myself later when I remember ones that I should have added, but that's a start.
Music is such a powerful thing and everyone takes differant bits from differant songs/styles and as some famous dead guy once said - "Music is a bridge" that can connect people.
So go ahead - what are your favorite bands and albums?
By sharing, we can connect with other people with the same tastes, or open ourselves and others to new styles.

Other than that, though? I honestly don't keep up with genres, I hardly know who's what. Groups? Hmm...
-Iron Maiden
-Rhapsody (or Rhapsody of Fire, as they're now called)
-Great Big Sea
-Kamelot
-Hammerfall
-E Nomine
-Rammstein
-Flogging Molly...
Some pieces by Weird Al and Lemon Demon are also to my liking. And there is one genre I know that I *do* like. Shanties. Shanties and folk songs. Unfortunately I can't think of any groups that'd do that kind of music outside of Poland. Well, with the possible exception of Ian Woods.

One guy I surely can advertize to you though is Billy Joel, an artist from the 80's and awesome piano player and singer.
Just type in his name on youtube and you get a lot of cool music from him.
My two favourites are "Leningrad" and "For the longest time".
He's got a lot of talent, but just not too much that appeals to me, personally.

I was raised in a household full of classic rock, so I grew up exposed to Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin and picked up a broader base along the way.

My lullibys were Hendrix and ZZ Top, Navaho flutes and Led Zepp, Cajun French accordions and Bob Marley.
I knew three Queen songs by heart (with some childish interpretation) before I knew my ABCs. ^.^
Music is everything, and it is win.

- Scooter
- Maximum the Hormone (You heard them last time Skadjer and I were visiting)
- Finntroll (I loves Folk Metal)
- Turmion Katilot
- Gigi D'Agostino
- Letzte Instanz
- Blue Man Group
- Assemblage 23
- Iris
- Linkin park
- 3 Doors Down
- Nickel Back
- Most anything from https://www.di.fm on their Vocal Trance or Trance stream
Even at the best, I was ambivalent - but after being overplayed, overhyped and thrust upon me, I think I've gone somewhat antagonistic.
I still like NickelBack however.

I will unashamedly admit that I loved "Baby Got Back" by Sir Mix-a-Lot, as well as "I Saw The Sign" by Ace of Base. But don't care much for Elvis or Green Day, despite how popular they are.
Everyone has differant tastes, and they're not worth sacrificing for conformity.

-- Yanni
-- Tangerine Dream (starting with "Le Park"; some of the older albums are kinda iffy with me.)
-- Electric Light Orchestra
-- Fleetwood Mac
-- Jean Michel Jarre

Specifically her song "The Walk"
Good pick!

Favorite bands include:
Iron Maiden/Bruce Dickinson
Dream Theater
Porcupine Tree
Symphony X
The Crystal Method
Red Hot Chili Peppers
Ozric Tentacles
and I hear OK Computer was pretty much the best thing since sliced bread, haven't had a chance to listen to it yet though
And I agree with your and Syri's point - I can respect anything that shows talent, even if it's not something I would myself choose to listen too.
