but overall it's just a really wonderful site. easy to use. a few quirps, but they're being addressed in beta~

I'm very disappointed by Weasyl. It's basically FurAffinity 2. That's why FA is still my main art site.

There's very little art on the site that isn't furry, at least when browsing the new uploads.

That's because the people who made it are mostly furries and therefore advertised within the furry community.

They fully encourage other artists to use the site, and have tried to advertise outside of FA and furry contexts. The problem appears to be that no one wants to join a website that had a bunch of furries originally joining it, because OH NOES TEH FURRY PORN, IT'LL BE Y!GALLERY ALL OVER AGAIN AND THEY'LL EITHER BAN FURRIES OR HUMANS, AND YOU KNOW THOSE FURFAGS, THEY'LL BAN PEOPLE. :V Yes, I actually have heard someone say basically that as their reason for not wanting to try.

They don't care that there's a filtering system, that if you never wanted to see a piece of furry art on there you would never have to if some human artists would just JOIN ALREADY, as I see it it's a problem with a bunch of whiny babies that don't understand how tagging and filtering works.

I do use filters to avoid seeing furry porn, but people don't tag their stuff properly.

I'm not gonna tag each and every piece of furry art I see. The onus should be on the uploader to tag their work correctly.

Their tag system is communal, so literally everyone who looks at that picture can add tags. Should help.

Honestly besides the current user-base I don't see how it's a FA2...especially on the basis that more than half the features of Weasyl aren't even on here.

I wouldn't call it a jumping of ship. I think there are too strong a-ties here on FA. It's no surprise that here has been an influx of people making accounts on Weasyl, but from what I've seen, no one has really completely left FA to do so.

Weasyl has a handful of features that FA doesn't that I feel is more appealing and that people have been waiting for, along with a few surprises. From my experience, Weasyl seems more personal, particularly in the aspect that you can customize your account page. It also feels more clean-cut and professional. I think one big appeal is that, so far, there are not restrictions to artistic content. I've never had the desire to make other accounts on any other furry based galleries, but compared to other sites like SoFurry, ArtSpot, etc., if I had to choose one, it would be Weasyl. It's definitely worth making an account, if nothing but to see their features.

I really, really like Weasyl, but knowing that there will inevitably be people who may never want to leave FA or at least have a significant secondary presence on Weasyl I will have to stick around.

Weasyl also doesn't seem as good for the collectors of art, those people are definitely going to stay here.

The people who commission a lot. People were already kind of upset that if an artist they commissioned uploads a work on Weasyl, they cannot upload it themselves.

There is a system called "Collections" for such instances but there is bitching to high heaven that "it's not the same as a submission in your gallery!"

Aaaaah, I see. I like the Collections idea. Yes it's nice that people want to share the work they're commissioned, but forget that all those images take up space on someone's server. Considering that someone is allowing them to make an account on their site for free, I don't think it's so ridiculous. What is ridiculous is how often FA has to go under maintenance because of how quickly their space fills up (among other things) due to repeated uploads, images that go against the AUP, etc. Then people get all bent out of shape when they can't do anything here for a couple of hours, heaven for bid if it's longer. Weasyl is trying to fix that with the Collections option, and from what I can tell, there's really no red tape against uploading the same image. It's just suggested to use, though that may change if Weasyl takes off the ground. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

I think so far the rule is that if the artist is not on Weasyl and has not themselves submitted it to Weasyl you can upload it.

I, personally, don't care. I think that if I didn't do the artwork there's no reason it has to be some centerpiece of my gallery.

I am really loving the ability to sort your gallery into folders over there. If you do a lot of diverse things it is AWESOME for keeping things organized. There's a lot of other handy features I really like but that one is the one I'm most excited about. It's sorta a shame FA never really did any new and useful updates like that.

Folders would be an IMMENSE improvement here. I have years worth of favs I wish I could sort.

What turned users away from Inkbunny the most was the fact they are okay with cub-porn. So it has been labeled a place to go for such things since. And that's why sane people lost interest XD --this is not allowed on weasyl.

Same here. I think for a lot of people Inkbunny became synonomus with porn.

Keep in mind it's still in beta, but once it opens up, the wideness of use may blow up

I think its too early to "leave FA" --there is still a huge user base here so I don't think a mass exodus is going to occur yet. However, it is insanely useful for artists and pretty much has everything you wanted on here and more (folders, critique center, commissions page, really nice layout, a place to collect art made for you, a character section, etc). I really like it so far. There are a few clunky things with the site, but that's being addressed in the beta version. I spoke with Kihari and they do not intend to keep the site in beta as long as Nabyn has been.

It's also super normal that there are tons of sign ups as of late: I've been there since launch and they recently enabled invites, so users have been inviting folks and as a result people are posting about it. But I wouldn't take it as people jumping ship. Were just beta testing. I wish no ill to FA but I hope Weasyl takes off. I'd be super happy if thered be a large permanent userbase there--I need a site with good features.

Ah, that would explain the sudden influx of journals about it. I felt a little behind the curve there, wasn't sure what was going on.
Those features sound really tempting. FA has a great community for the most part but it's functionality is really showing its age.

Its a significant improvement over FA. Much better mobile browser support, gallery management through folders, a reduction in commissioners needing to repost artists work through the collections system, tag filtering allowing you to be very specific in what you don't want to see, (lets say I want to filter adult MLP without eliminating /all/ MLP), watching artists selectively such as following their art and not their journals, and it is just flat out smoother. I think it could improve its written submission formatting, as it feels more like DA there than Sofurry (which has the best online literature formatting in an art gallery site) but its still steps forward from FA.

I am enormously pleased a majority of the artists I like are signing up there, but I won't eliminate FA until everyone I watch transitions there (and I watch about 450 people)

Those all sound like terrific features. I find myself being swayed.

I'm not jumping ship, but weasyl just seems like a nice site! As other people have mentioned there's folders, critique, a nice layout, tag filtering, and a lot of other goodies that make it nice. I like that you can post adult art there, but it's not an entirely furry website.

Well, personally I need more art communities like I need another hole in my head, and I'm sitting this one out for various reasons. I'd rather stick to FA and enjoy improvements they make when they make them. FA has a much better community than dA, to me at least, so that's a good thing about FA.

Well, it's not like I'll be leaving FA for Weasyl unless the latter really goes the extra mile. I do like a lot of Weasyl's features though over FA, such as art folders, a template to post your commission prices, being able to upload writing and music and being generally easy to use; it's not at all bogged down like dA. I'm happy for a Weasyl account because I'll have a gallery to post my story on, as well as a repository for my character profiles.

I dunno if people are necessarily "jumping ship" as much as just making accounts over there as well. :P I am on Nabyn, FA, and Weasyl. The only place I ever obviously jumped ship after settling in was DA, and it's because the community got so shitty over there. (apparently I was magically time-warp stealing characters from kids and stuff like that! lol) Nabyn and Weasyl are still in beta and not "public" registration-wise yet so I couldn't use them as the main place for my art! I couldn't get commissions at all when I needed them. I think Weasyl still needs a lot of work. Nabyn could go public now IF they had a big enough server but they don't so they haven't. I really like that site quite a bit, it may be hard for some people to figure out though. :E Weasyl looks like it has more potential to go public first despite the flaws I think it has with just general navigation around the site. I think the character stuff on Nabyn is much better than Weasyl but FA's complete lack of this feature kinna sucks! haha.

I've only had a few problems with whackadoodles over on DA, but that seems to be par for the course no matter what site. Some of friends have had to deal with nutcases there, too, so I can understand just giving up on it in disgust. I mainly use it because it looks like a more 'pro' place to store artwork than FA.

Yeah I use my gallery system on my website for that sort of deal. DA just got covered in stupid kids for me. It may be due to my mostly "cute" cartoony style or the amount of old fanart I had on there at one point in time. x.x I don't know. I just got tired of being accused of things and treated like crap in general from the community on there. Lots of self important children..or something??? Also the whole magical time travel theft thing... Somehow ripping off kids characters they designed in 2010 with my art from 2001? MAGIC. WHERE IS MY TIME MACHINE? hAHA. Somehow they couldn't see their little buds were actually using my own characters and decided to continuously accuse me and abuse me over artwork i had drawn 6 to 10 years ago. 8|

I hear that a lot and I just do not understand how their thinking works on that! Do they really believe what they're saying, or are they trying to intimidate you or score points from you somehow? It's completely fucking bizarre.
