Poor greyhare. 3: Im sorry I got youre note about it not meanign me but hey than again most teenagers are a bit whiney. Some complain a lot and i see a lot of times at school the ones that get the trouble. People sometimes need to wake up and realize soemtimes people have bigger problems. Me, I admit i have a few issues that prevent me from sports and other thigns i wish i could do but hey i never use thta as an excuse. and eveyrone has problems. Its how we handle them and hwo we deal with them. I seen the stupidest ones like a kid useing her phone in class, geting it taken up, and screamign and crying about getting it taken up. Really... that was her fault. some people have problems that they didnt cause. hey.... have you really tried eveyrything? maybe if you tried harder, you can find ways around it. and if you need help, thne ask for it. btu you gotta be thinkful and thoughtful to other people and grey hare you are a perfect example. I cant imagine how it must be. thats why im praying you get better. sorry aboutt he random message but tjoguth it would help.

Arutheus you are so mature for your age it just amazes me. I know you will go on to do great things in the future.

I try to be caring towards everyone. I may not always reply to a journal, art, poem, or story, but I at least try to take a look to see what is going on with the person. Of course, you may or may not believe me to be a good person. Only meeting me and getting to know me can answer those questions. Yes, I whine about things. I have depression, I was almost kicked out of my parent`s home, I have a paper due tomorrow, but I do worry about those in my life. I have a friend who recently left FA. The night they left FA, they said some hurtful things to me. I cried, but I knew they were upset. I told them I was always there for them, and I believe them to be a good friend. We are still friends right now, and I talk to them almost every night because of how much they mean to me. And even if I do not talk often with everyone, I still think of them. Friends are important to me. Seeing people happy makes me happy. If they want me to shut up about my menial problems so they can complain or rant, I will step aside for them.

This is just my own thoughts. Take them or leave them. Choice is yours. I try to not push anything onto people because it is their life to choose what they will. As long as they are happy and okay, then I am fine.

Humans as a whole in this generation seem to not have empathy. It's a rarity to see in life and the fandom in general. I do believe to some degree it has to do with my generation and younger but then there are some older people that lack that as well. Empathy for the most part is taken for granted or hardly ever recognized and it's rare to find such people that have that ability to feel that sort of thing. It's kind of what makes me slightly detached from the fandom because it's like sometimes when you express things, negative or positive, the assholes and less empathetic are the first ones to make the most hurtful comments and act like you aren't allowed to show any form of human emotion. Personally, I don't think you would become less empathetic. I just think that if anything you'd be more cautious with whom you show empathy too.

Something I feel my empathy works against me because in my thinking everybody should be this way. I have a friend who went totally blind 4 years ago. I still to this day call him 3 times a week. I was torn all up when a friend of mine had a stroke and 5 weeks later died at the house.

I guess my real problem come from my lack of interaction with young people till April of this year.

I personally enjoy the company of those older than me because they tend to be wiser and more tolerable then those my age or younger, though there are exceptions

The lack of empathy is also what i have found. They can't imagine what someone else might be going thru. The young members of the fandom think mostly of themselves. And the here and now. They can't see that what is happening to that older furrie or anyone else is something that wil ever happen to them. If something happens to another they just move along to someone else. Of course us older furries, or furs, their is a difference,, we are a novelty. Really interested in you, until that novelty wears off. then they are real interested in someone else and new. Until that novelty wears off. When I heard of your eye problems, I could feel and imagine your thoughts and fears. And I do pray that all will be well for you. I also think of you during the day. 'I haven't been to a local fur meet for a couple months anyway. Don't plan on going again. There is just to much of an age difference. My fursuiting, that I have done recently, I do alone.. We need a greymuzzle's furries convention.. You are in my prayers. Do and be well..

Thanks Oswanwolf for the info. When you refer to "novelty" is it because they forget about age or is just the new furry eye candy. I notice that at MFM no one really want to talk to me. So the problem may have been age and or not having my fursuits at the time. I know when their was no interesting panels, parade , or shows. I end up sending a lot of time in the hotel room. I personally cannot stand to be in a crowd area with everybody talking to someone but me. That make me far lonely than being in a room by myself. Part of the reason I to going furmeets and furcons is to meet and talk with others. I seem to do better at the outdoor furcons people seem to be more will to talk to you there.

Agree with all said here, just getting into this as newbie and it is quite concerting and overwhelming for trying to gauge where we fit.
I'm pretty much expecting the worst in attending MFF next week but have to see a con first hand since I live in remote area.

Most of the young are focus on themselves and finding their place in the world. They are out chasing down a partner and more concerned about when they are going to get laid next. Hormones rule them. They are more concerned about what other think of them.. then how they think of others. Unless a young one has some sort of disability.. they can't comprehend what us older ones have to go through. I know I didn't have to take any major responsibilities on until I was in my 20's. There is a much longer adolescences today. In 1963 which my mom graduated.. it was common to get married soon after high school. Now people think there is something wrong with you if you want to start a family that early. Now it is more acceptable to get married in your late 20's.

I bring this up as a level of maturity and responsibility. Kids don't know the difference between abuse and discipline. If you actually looks at many of these emo journals, they whining because they were told something they didn't like or been made to act a little more proper around others. They think they are abused any time they do not get their way or if it gets in the way of any fun they want to be having. If someone is more focused on what others can do for them.. they are not thinking of what they can do for others.

The concept of staying home and caring for your elder's is not relevant. People with disabilities are put into homes, or others wise kept out of main stream. I personally didn't grow up with my grandparents around. I honestly didn't give much thought to the older folks until I was about 30. I was too busy. or plain didn't notice.

Also.. maybe they just don't know what to say? They probably thinking something like this "Gosh that sucks that happened to greyhare, poor guy, but there isn't anything I can do about." and then move on. They don't stop to say a few kind words.. no one really does that in the fandom unless they are hitting on you for some darn reason. The young also confused kind words with flirtation as well.

Just some thoughts on the matter...

Speaking as a young one (being 23), I have to say that I do at times whine and get emo because I have a psychological problem. That being said, I always try to be nice to people and be more caring towards their feelings. For example, I don't know Mr. Greyhare personally but I know him enough to know he is a good guy and he's always offered me advice and always talks to me to see how I am doing, so when he made the journals about his eye, I automatically became concerned. I am one of those young ones that have the ability to care about others feelings and try to offer what I can without a hidden motive. I admire what the fandom calls "Greymuzzles" because people my age group is overly dramatic sometimes and I admit I get that way too.

I so say thing generally... of course.. there are always exception to the rule.. you maybe different.. but most are how I described. Exceptions are not the norm.

I agree with you completely. I often wonder if the younger furs, and non furs alike will change someday or if they're going to remain self centered all their lives. Of course I don't mean all younger people because I do know several who are probably more mature than I am. But as for the ones you mention, I see so many journals and post from them with some trivial problem acting like its the end of the world. I can't help but think "I was never like that when I was their age" but then I have to stop and ask myself, was I like that, at least to some degree? I honestly don't think I was but then again, I bet if you ask the ones who are like that today they'd say they don't think they are like that either. There's no question that society in general is degrading at an alarming rate. I just keep going on, trying to set a positive example and hoping for the best while preparing for the worst.
