Greetings from the socialist hell hole of Canada, where I suffer under the onerous burdens of health care, a social safety net, lower income inequality, and the freedom to marry someone of the same sex as myself if I so choose!
I agree, it's so freakin' hard living up here with this crazy ass backwards healthcare system. I'm freaking out how I'm going to pay that hospital bill when when I have a heart attack, stroke, give birth, or get in an auto accident....
But, when you have a heart attack you gotta wait in line for months to get that defibrillator right? And by the time you get it they totally could have euthanized both your grandma's!
This is why the US has a far higher standard of living, lower infant mortality rate and higher life expectancy and spend less on healthcare per person than almost every industrialized nation, virtually all of whom have state healthcare right?....................RIGHT?!
Now we just need the Tea Party to realize they should be thinking of the American public rather than making their #1 priority trying to smear the president's resume in preparation for a future republican campaign.
But he still won the electoral vote with over one million less votes. And I'm convinced all those millions of idiots in California switched it. After all you have the Oakland Raiders in that state and look at those fans. Really what is the point of People in the west voting if it's decided by the east states.
With so many people living in the cities the rural vote hardly matters. And I am a country girl. Yeah my state went for Romney, but whats the point if my states electoral count doesn't even put a dent in the result. I thought it was a stupid system when Bush won, even though the result was better than having that nutjob Gore in office.
Yeah all those west coast morons looking for all those handouts. They'll surely go for the guy who would give it to them, even if it means another 6 trillion in debt by the time Obama finally can't run in 2016, and the American people come to their senses. I'll give Obama credit for doing something that Carter couldn't do. Get re-elected with being such a bad president.
Sexist? My friends call me 'dude' all the time, not to mention other women in our circles. The only sexism is assuming that a word -has- to be gendered when it could just as easily be neutral.
I SURE DO LOVE LIVING OFF THE GOVERNMENT. I'M GOING TO TRY TO DO IT FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE, BECAUSE IT'S SO COMFORTABLE LIVING WITHOUT MEDICAL INSURANCE OR EXPENDABLE INCOME.
He's also ignoring the fact that california doesn't even make it into the top 20 states on welfare usage. 16 of the top states that DO however voted for Romney XD
Romney's losing speech was graceful. He demonstrated good sportsmanship by thanking his supporters and congratulating Obama for winning.
Romney didn't go "rabble rabble that muslim got into office again" - he actually demonstrated sportsmanship.
Wish Romney's supporters followed their candidate more.
It's a little known fact that the American presidential election is a national sport in Canada. Entire families huddled around the TV munching popcorn and watching the electoral madness.
Well, him expanding gun rights by allowing us to take them on trains and into national parks was CLEARLY a ploy to lull us gun owners into complacency before he personally crosses the 2nd amendment off every copy of the constitution.
Really i don't get the hysterics, i'm quite comfortable with my small collection of guns and obama's seemingly ignoring the gun issue in general, even slightly expanding gun rights.
I did watch the debates. I don't see banning assault rifles as a bad thing, nobody needs them. What he didn't say is that he plans to push for any new gun bans.
He wouldn't even have needed to state his position on that subject for me to know what he thinks about it, there aren't ANY democratic politicians that aren't opposed to machine guns on the streets.
look up the definition of "assault" weapon, look up how many "assault" weapons that have ever been used in crimes.
stop getting your facts from fox newse
Plenty of assault weapons have been used in crimes, i'm not a conservative dipshit so i don't watch fox "newse", i'm very knowledgeable about guns and i'm fully aware of how retarded some of the identifying dialog in the assault weapon ban is focusing more on "evil features" as opposed to capabilities and that a ruger mini14 which is virtually the same as an AK is legal while the semi auto ak isn't just because they look different.
The bottom line is, NOBODY needs as obama stated guns that we use in military theaters. They're dangerous for home defense and not necessary.
ON TOP OF THAT, even if there WAS another ban which he hasn't pushed for in the slightest, just like the last ban they're not going to have people lining up and forking over their expensive guns, they will still be legal to their current owners and be labeled as "pre ban", i see pre ban ar's and ak's every single time i go to the range.
The bottom line really is that if owning a fucking machine gun is your highest priority in politics and voting, you have a completely fucked up moral compass and are probably ignorant of politics.
Ugh... I feel your frustration when it comes to entitled welfare abusers. I assume that's what you're getting at. Neither Democrats nor Republicans like watching their money get flushed down the toilet. We just have different ideas of how to fix the problem.
I was on food stamps for six months before I got my job as a lab technician. I also messed up my ankle, which my parents' extended insurance under the Obama administration paid for. Government money is how I could still afford college. College is how I got my job, and I wouldn't be giving back to society without it.
I see the welfare given to me as an investment in the economy. I want to invest in others in the same way. I just want to stop people from being lazy, squandering that money, and abusing the system.
Anyway, we're not about free government hand-outs. I feel kinda insulted whenever I hear that implied.
Also, that article on the Federal Assault Weapons ban is pretty short and straightforward. Totally worth the read.
Lucky. Welfare is administered by the states, and the states get a lot of leeway in making the rules. In Texas, you would have been lucky to find a homeless camp to rob their soup pot. You certainly don't qualify for food stamps if you are well-off (you know--own a microwave oven and a computer).
I'm fairly conservative but am glad there are taxpayer supported programs in place that provide temporary relief to those truly in need, and many such as I that have never needed to use them should keep in mind that many real people are in real need, and not everyone seeks to abuse the system. What you said above is the most honest, elegantly stated first-hand account of on the subject, and I thank you for sharing what you did. I'm glad the programs did what they are supposed to do and helped you get back on track. In your case, it truly was an investment.
Thank you. Very much. It feels like most of the comments on political subjects these days are emotionally polarizing. I wish we could all focus on the issues that most everyone agrees are problematic and find some unity in that common ground (even if we have different solutions to the problems). I'm getting sick of this political sibling rivalry, and I just want everyone to talk. Not yell, not insult, not demean or threaten.
Talk. Like people who want the world to go somewhere and not devolve and fester into anger and self-destruction.
Well, I may be just another brainless liberal bleeding heart socialist fascist nazi werepuppy on catnip, but I do agree we don't really need EASY access to certain weapons.
The AR15, however, is not one of them. It is no more dangerous than any semi-auto hunting rifle, and a lot less than many. M16 is a different kettle of fish, even if it looks similar.
That said, I'm for licensed, extremely thoroughly background-checked ownership of said items. They just shouldn't be as easy to get as, say, my P226 or my SuperNova or my soon to be acquired BAR hunting rifle.
Once upon a time, civilians were allowed to own frigging artillary-armed ships. ...in fact, that was still the time when the Constitution was written, lending some justification to any argument that the intent of the 2nd amendment really was that the "people" should be the final check in our system of balances on power, to counter military uppitiness.
Some people, though, I wouldn't trust with an airsoft gun. Banning weapons doesn't stop them from getting them, however. People like that will create a weapon if that is all they can do. Good luck banning fertilizer, charcoal, shit, basic elements like sulphur or gaseous hydrogen. We may as well try to ban sunlight. So the rest of us should be able to jump through a few hoops and be ready for them.
I'm rambling, aren't I? Excuse me while I go recharge my caffeine flux capacitors.
After some extensive reading, I didn't see any direct attempts to ban guns save talk about re-instituting an assault weapons ban that had already been in place prior to 2004. Am I missing something?
The administration has been working with the UN to instate international gun control.
It's one of the things that media corporations have blatantly ignored for quite some time. This has been progressing for years.
Huh... That's a good thing to keep my eyes on. Thanks for that. I'm comforted by the fact that the treaty is focused on international trade and not within the US. Our representative stated, "(w)e will not accept any treaty that infringes on the constitutional rights of our citizens to bear arms".
I don't own guns, but if there's ever a political move to ban legitimate arms trade within the states, I'll be fighting on your side.
In our country theres a great advert which involves obama and romney ina dance off during the last 30 seconds of a live debate.....if only it were true.
well to be fair he was very graceful for his loss. Gave a very sincere and mature speech, congratulated his rival's victory and thanked his supporters.
I just wish his supporters demonstrated the tact and sportsmanship that their candidate demonstrated.
Heavens no, I despise him.
I just wanted to say his name and see what happens.
Like saying Bloody Mary thrice or such. Maybe something scary might happen.
Oh wait... I don't have to.
This is why the US has a far higher standard of living, lower infant mortality rate and higher life expectancy and spend less on healthcare per person than almost every industrialized nation, virtually all of whom have state healthcare right?....................RIGHT?!
Also, I put my name on that wait list for a defibrillator five years ago. When I actually need one I'll be laughing at the front of the line

also no I wouldn't know; I was too busy being a kid and enjoying Pokemon and whatnot.
"Welcome to Molson's Election Night in America!"
One small word, FOR SCIENCE!

Just because i don't fall for alarmist nonsense people regurgitate on the internet.
There. Maybe people will actually read it this time.

Here's a little tidbit on it: http://www.reuters.com/article/2012.....8A627J20121107
Google "UN Gun Control", you'll find a mess of results on it.
I don't own guns, but if there's ever a political move to ban legitimate arms trade within the states, I'll be fighting on your side.
He's been in office for FOUR YEARS SINCE.
Did he take away our guns? NO.
I just wish his supporters demonstrated the tact and sportsmanship that their candidate demonstrated.
I just wanted to say his name and see what happens.
Like saying Bloody Mary thrice or such. Maybe something scary might happen.
Could be worth it though. Maybe thrown into a volcano, would that still summon him?
