5 lists of 5 things
The following are five lists of five things each that have been part of my life's experiences. All of them were in someway memorable enough that I think they are things that should be a part of everyone's life. Some of these experiences are from long ago, and the memories have faded much, but I will try to explain my choices as best I can.
5 movies everyone should see:
1. All Quiet on the Western Front (1930/1979)
Both versions of this movie are both horrifying and beautiful. If you've ever seen "Saving Private Ryan" both versions of this movie are what "Saving Private Ryan" wishes it was, and that is not meant negatively.
2. The Man From Earth
The only way to describe this is as some of the most fascinating storytelling I've ever witnessed.
3. Twelve Angry Men
It starts as twelve jurors deciding on whether or not the defendant is guilty of murder and delves into what it means to do the right thing, and why people often choose to do wrong.
4. Once Upon a Time
Once Upon a Time is an adaptation of Windaria and the only English version of the film I know of. While footage has been removed and moved around (possibly for the worse) I can say that the result is a film aimed at a younger audience (12-15) that deals with losing one's way in life in a profound way.
5. The Great Dictator
This film reduces Adolf Hitler to the ridiculous, miserable joke that the world should have seen him as.
5 books everyone should read:
1. 1984
A novel that is both beautiful and terrifying in how well it parallels real life.
2. Brave New World
3. Stranger in a Strange Land
I can't express the influence that this novel has had on what little world building and writing I have done.
4. Starship Troopers
It's rather amusing that the two things about the book that everyone knows about are giant bugs and space marines because when I was reading it those were the two things about it that were easiest to forget.
5. The Alchemist
A novel about the knowledge and adventure that can be gained by choosing to follow your dreams
5 YouTube videos everyone should see.
1. You Have No Idea How Wrong You Are
A 27 minutes presentation about how we can be wrong and not know it.
2. Dancing With Unicorns
An eye opening talk about the difference between faith and religion
3. The Illusion of Superiority
If you've ever wondered why people don't recognize how incompetent they are, this video explains why.
4. Dust That Sings
An atheist speaking about our place in the universe. This video get's a bit confrontational in a few places, but is overall still very good and worth watching.
5. The Paradox of the Second God
An atheist speaking about the love of God.
5 games everyone should play:
These are all free flash games and are all rather short. You have no excuse not to play them.
1. The Killer
A short game about the killings in Cambodia by the Khmer Rouge regime.
2.Immortall
This is the only game that has ever gotten me to apologize to a character and mean it.
3. Silent Conversation
A creative game that is all about reading.
4. Coil
This game has no instructions, but shouldn't be too hard to figure out how to play. I have my own ideas on what it's about, but it's best to go into the game unbiased and form your own opinions.
5. Viricide
A creative shooter that smoothly spans the gap between humor and sad drama.
5 things everyone should say:
I think these all speak for themselves.
1. Please
2. Thank you
3. I love you
4. I made a mistake
5. I forgive you
So those are my 5 lists of 5 things. Please ask me any questions you have, as I would love to discuss these lists. But I would love even more to see you post journals of your own five lists and your own five things. Especially if you have different kinds of lists entirely.
I would also like to mention that I cannot express how difficult it was to make these lists. I've lost track of all of my runner ups for these lists. There is so much experience--even in a life as mundane as mine--that it is difficult to comprehend.

V:
Immortal now
I'd rather read the book :v
also the youtube videos, at least the first three, kinda just say "humans are a little durhur" in general :v
the other guy explaining how everyone was wrong then proven wrong is alright, though i thought it was a bit long winded.
and the other one was statistic-y :v
Are you saying giving such a long speech was wrong? :P
But-But-Percentiles! D:
Depending on the subject matter, sometimes. :v
I know, I took that class. Twice. I like when things are backed up by big N data :V
Sometimes they're alright, like I said depending on subject matter, sometimes they're just long winded, and could be simplified by half, a quarter, even an eighth of time
My thoughts were basically that it's already telling me what I know about humans.
:v
Although, the end is poignant in that it doesn't end. :v
What I found fascinating about Starship Troopers was that it was far more a book about their society than one about bugs and powered armor. The idea that they had managed to achieve the Hobbesian ideal of establishing a set of morals that can be logically proven is excellent.
The best part about Stranger In A Strange Land was the idea of the Fair Witness. I wish such training actually existed.
I am well aware that admitting you've made a mistake doesn't change anything (damn personal experiences DX)
but people need to make that first step before they can change. I see where you're coming from though, and "help" was one of my runners up for that set of 5.
