Paypal fuck the what...?

I haven't used my Paypal for over 2 years but now that I finally got money to add to it so I can commission something nice for myself I find out that I need to give "sensitive" or even photos of "sensitive" information in order to use their services again?
Has anyone else gone through or feels the slightest bit concerned they are asking for way too much info over something that used to be so simple? As in:
1-add money
2-send to person
I need to give them a photo or file of my ID? Seriously? I honestly have no idea if I should be sighing and facepalming or pissing mad. To make matters worse I dont think I even HAVE the information they want from me on paper or photographed.

I mean who goes:
"hey this account that was dead for 2 years suddenly became active. Should we be suspicious?"
"Nah, no one on the internet ever gets hacked or give their password to someone else."
you can't have both security and convenience at the same time, you have to pick one or the other.
Though i suppose when the day to quit Paypal comes, disconnecting my bank account will provide me with the problems everyone rants about
It is an explanation nonetheless. If you have proof of your identity/residency in any form and perhaps scan it or retrieve from any archives (past transactions from paypal, perhaps?), it might help?
But I'm sorry this had to happen, though ;_;
