say day for mmo gamers that played this game @.@ i remember first starting out...ahh good times! then came along city of villans.....still great memories!
...I know there has been a movement to try and get Disney Interactive to pick it up, but.. we'll see.
I've been wanting to hop back on and play it but after the announcement of the cancellation I stepped back.. :(
I played that for only one month, It is not nearly as much so. Champions Online is pretty damned good on char creation though, but DCU was.....ludicrously dull to me. As in canceling my account on that. I still pay for CO in comparison.
DCUO was relatively limited in its customizing from what I saw.
Champions Online has a good deal of customization - but only AFTER you get past the tutorial area (and possibly level 10 I hear?), and know to visit a tailor (around the ring in rencen, or inside the power house).
Why they chose to hide a bunch of options until after the tutorial, and don't want to pull in players right away with all the customization, I don't know.
Cryptic did update CO eventually so that you can skip the tutorial area and just jump right into the game. They even revamped the power house area to include a tailor vendor.
Well, I was new to the game in about November, and I think those were already in place. I wanted to go through the tutorial, even if I had the option to skip it.
It's just weird - as a new player, it looked like there weren't so many customization options (or that the UI was being glitchy), and I do not recall it telling or even hinting that "Hey, there are many more appearance options now that you're out of the tutorial, so go see a tailor and also you can actually alter your appearance" or anything of the sort.
The costume creator is lackluster at best with an obnoxious interface, and the selection of powers is really restrictive not merely in terms of how many 'powers' are available but the fact that you have to take some sort of dramatic-looking offensive power. You can't have a character who's merely strong or fast (unless you give them Gadgets and handwave it).
Now, that said, its F2P options are a lot more palatable than Champions Online.
Not in an official capacity. I'm sure there's an illegal one that some are trying to build, but I'm not really interested in that. I'm following the planning that is going on with the Plan Z other projects to make new games from scratch.
Champions Online isn't a bad alterantive.
I know it's not the same, but the customization is way better than that offered by DCUO.
I know a lot of people who are going to miss CoH.
This was a game I never played, but always wanted to give a shot. Really unfortunate that it's closing down.
Incidentally, your picture is really nicely done! I hope you'll take the time to finish it up, even if it won't be quite as timely. She deserves a nice sendoff. :)
I really despise the fact that the term 'sunsetting' is being used to refer to this (not directing this at you, just raging at the use of the term in general). They're shutting the game down, not getting it a nice room in a nursing home where it can trade medications with its bridge partners.
I think that Mercedes Lackey is making the best case to Disney Interactive. I really hope it bares fruit. I can't bring myself to write letters to their staff though. I don't think my voice means much.
check out my Facebook page I have some pictures I made to promote Disney Saving CoH, you should share them, Mercedes has already shared the one of Mickey Mouse.
As did I, though most of it came out in stories. Need to get back to those, they deserve to be finished. I hope you'll do the art of your charcaters someday, rather enjoyed the time I got to spend with them
It's nice that they gave us a few months to come to terms with our game ending, but NOT nice that they fired the entired staff in the middle of their projects.
Eh. Well business is complicated. As least they give a damn about their customers. They probably just couldn't afford to finish the projects in the long run.
I left Igniter standing on the steps of City Hall, holding a torch high. I even managed to level another character in the middle of a Rikti invasion. I had just started to fall in love with the game again, and it was taken away. Raise a glass to Paragon City and the Rogue Isles. Methinks we shall never see their like again.
How's CO been treating you since the city walls fell?
I ended the game having an end of the world party in Pocket D with my girl Abyssia dancing till the world stopped turning. I've since moved on to focus all my attention onto Star Trek Online which has grown into an amazing game since it went free2play last year. I'm staying in the cryptic family of games. I might port my toons over to CO at some point, but since I started with City of Villians originally, my characters were mostly badguy side and it doesn't have the right feel to make them all heroes.
I played some Guild Wars 2, which didn't hold my interest because my MMO friends didn't follow me there. When I found out NCSoft fired Paragon Studios, I decided to boycott NCSoft games, so I haven't come back. I tried WOW for a while with my group, but I was only interested when all 5 of us were on at the same time, which became more and more infrequent, so I ended my subscription. I'm doing Star Wars, but it's kind of dull and doesn't really satisfy my customization needs. I have characters on Champions but I haven't played in a long while.
Awww. That sucks. Hopefully another game will come along some time! In the meanwhile, I'm sure playing less games frees up time to do lots of other enjoyable stuff. :3
