God dammit. I have to boycott The Hobbit (edited for clarity

I am seriously depressed. But I have to do it.

I do not like PETA (who are mentioned in this article), but the fact is that Peter Jackson chose to use live animals on the set of his films (even when CGI was a possible alternative) and many animals died of disease and accidents that could have been prevented. He said that over half of the scenes with animals were CGI. I don’t understand why more couldn’t have been CGI (do you really need live chickens that badly in a movie?).
Horses with broken necks or backs, chickens mauled by dogs, goats and sheep kept in poor conditions and falling ill.
It was easy boycotting The Grey, since that was probably a terrible movie anyway. But this is going to be painful. Ugh. Fuck you Peter Jackson. Fuck you for making a trilogy I really want to see and choosing to abuse animals instead of using the really good CGI you have access to. Just… fuck you.

But because it referred to PETA in the subject, everyone latched onto that one word and assumed it was all BS because PETA was involved. Let me be clear. PETA is a horrible organization that has done a lot of terrible things and has lied. But they aren’t always wrong. And they’re not the only ones who are reporting this problem.
The original sources were the animal wranglers, and the fact that there were problems was confirmed by the American Humane Association:

The Humane Society of the United States is involved too:

I changed my original link because this one has more information (thought it’s not as concise as my original link). It also has Peter Jackson’s response. I personally find his response unsatisfactory. I am personally boycotting the Hobbit trilogy. Other people reading this can make their own decisions.

However, PETA isn't the only source. I just was lazy and only posted one link. The original sources were the animal wranglers, and the fact that there were problems was confirmed by the American Humane Association:

the Humane Society of the United States is involved now:

Also, note this bit: "Over 55 percent of all shots using animals in The Hobbit are in fact computer-generated; this includes horses, ponies, rabbits, hedgehogs, birds, deer, elk, mice, wild boars, and wolves." That's a lot of CGI! Especially when filming real animals is usually so much cheaper than doing CG ones.
And yes, I can boycott whomever I want, for the reasons that are important to me. I never said anyone else had to agree with me.
