Pod Update #16 - Nov/Dec 2012
Hey guys, I found some cool links to share with you!
If you're not aware yet, this group is under a new admin, so things will be done a little differently. I'll try to keep the updates kind of in the same format, but I think I'll use number for them rather than months, since sometimes I may post 3 or 4 a month, and sometimes I may only post 1.
I found a few cool articles that haven't been shared here yet, so take a look!
First and foremost, and you haven't yet, PLEASE SIGN THIS PETITION . It is very important that you do, and if you want to know anything about Morgan, the petition page has all the basic info. She is still very new to captivity so she still has a chance at making it in the ocean. If we wait too long, she could end up like Keiko.
Also on a serious note, How Fishing Gear Is Killing Whales. If you go to the "read more" section, there's a full story about it. Fishing gear isn't the only thing killing off sea life, though. It may seem like common sense, but let me just remind you to recycle whenever you can, because most of the stuff you through away actually ends up in the ocean :/ If you can't or don't recycle, please at least cut up those little rings that come around a 6-pack of cola. Small acts like that can save so many lives, and it only takes you an extra minute or two to do<3
THISis actually a very good and moving video about ocean conservation.
Now, onto the brighter side of things!
The Japanese island of Toshima has officially made their dolphins citizens . The goal of this project is not only to educate about how to protect wild dolphins, but also to make it known that cetaceans and humans are friends, and can live together in peace. We as people need to respect that dolphins are wild animals, though.
Here's a small article about NOC, a captive beluga whale who recently made some vocalizations that sound... surprisingly human.
A whale only ever seen as bones is found on the coast on New Zealand
A rare white humpback whale discovered off the coast or Norway
Birth of a killer whale is celebrated at Nagoya Aquarium.
So that's it for news this time! If you guys have any articles you would like submitted, send me a note and I'll review it.
Oh, and one last thing before I go...
I found this on Tumblr this morning and thought it would make a really good gift idea for the holidays, no? The tail is also a flash drive<3
Til next time~
