I've been on an anime kick for a while and have started rewatching older stuff like Tenchi Muyo, Sailor Moon,Lupin the 3rd, and FMA.

Tenchi has some major stuff going on other than incest which is pretty fascinating. I think that's also why the other episodes were aired on Toonami. I really missed hearing the English voice actors.

Sailor Moon is bearable. The unedited version has some adult themes going on that I wouldn't have imagined (incest and lesbians). I'm looking into watching the live action version again

FMA is fantastic in every way. Love it.

Lupin is a classic and I'm hoping to get into watching the newer version after this week.

Also I discovered A very Potter sequel on youtube. Where has this been for so long! It's a harry potter musical that has made me laughed so hard. Draco fucking Malfoy and his father makes this whole thing worth it. If you can stand a bit of singing, then I'd say give it watch.

It's a newer one so hasn't been dubbed yet and doesn't fit with your older anime theme. If you want more older anime, you might check out Fushigi Yuugi! :)

Out of curiosity, which version of FMA? The originally aired one, or Brotherhood.

Brotherhood. I like it more than the first since it follows the creator's original story and it's brutal as hell.

I doubt they were,those episodes were considered too hot for American TV. To be fair,I don't know how most kids would handle gender swapping boy bands either.

Only seasons 1-4 were dubbed in English and distributed domestically in the US. Season 5 is still only available in fansubs.

FMA is awesome of course, both versions. Though I will admit that Brotherhood impressed me more, it had a solid narrative and excellent story structure.

Anime itself is an interesting beast. There is good bits to pick out here and there but there is too often an underlining cliche in so much of it. Like how the TFS Hellsing Ultimate Abridged reminded me that I'd not watched Hellsing yet, and after watching a few eps of the official show I'm liking the Abridged series' characters better. Alucard being almighty and intelligent but with a pretentious, sophomoric dick front is so much more compelling (and entertaining) than him just being almighty and intelligent with an undertone of broodiness.

But you know me, I don't like to complain.

Brotherhood has so much emotion to it and kept my ass sitting though the whole thing. That's how I believe more anime should be like instead of the crap that's popping up. I think this is the reason why I've stopped watching it for years.

And TFS knows which parts to hit on. If it wasn't for them I probably wouldn't be watching the episodes again. I haven't looked at hellsing either since I felt that the characters mocked in the abridged series would be a complete opposite, dark, and broody. But first impressions are usually wrong,so...

I'll have to put that on my list to watch.

There was a slightly unofficial interview with the director of the first FMA series who claimed (and later recanted) that the show's theme became an anti-war allegory, the war in Lior being Iraq and the Ishvallan conflict a throwback to Vietnam. And it makes sense with that context in mind. Of course it isn't the 'real' story and feels a tad... illegitimate? But still interesting. Brotherhood impressed me with how well researched it seem to be, it didn't have quite the same level of Japanese xenophobic/introverted culture there (aside from the characters at times acting Japanese. But they didn't eat Japanese food/use chopsticks/ect. themes. In short, it was plausible that you were in a foreign country).

Even a friend I met in the past year who claimed to dislike most anime thought it was good. So that's a strong indicator that it transcends the genre with its quality.

Ah yes tenchi was odd...but way better than the made for tv versions in my opinion. You should see the GXP one...its decent, and then there is Ryo-ohki. That series took incest to a whole new level hahaha.

Now..were did you get the uncensored sailor moon?

Nobody's really heard of it, but I'll give a shout-out to Peacock King/Spirit Warrior (Also called "Kujaku-Oh"). Kind of cheesy, but the last two movies in the five-boxed set are a gorgeous two-parter.

It's sort of a supernatural anime that typically involves some Buddhist monk exorcising some manner of great evil. It's something I grew up with, so it's sort of nostalgic. Pretty darn obscure, though; I can barely get any YouTube footage of it. Most search results will simply yield the live-action film based on the same manga.
