HALP!!! Molding questions! Acrylic, Silicone, Plaster?!?

So far away, My mind flies to the moon.
Far, far away, I can see what happens soon.
And what's most important.
Far, far away, I can see what happens soon.
And what's most important.
Ok, so I'm doing some research for an upcoming project...
I'll eventually be making a jawset, this will be a custom one, I'd just order one off a supplier, but they don't have the species I need anywhere...
I'll need to make a jawset, which will be cast in acrylic, I think... I need the teeth to be hard.
I have a recipe for oomoo, the mold needs to be flexible, so I got that part down, and I'll just be pouring resin into that mold to get the acrylic positive.
The part I need a little help on is for the tongue...
I need the tongue to be flexible/soft, so I'll be casting that with silicone.... So my question is...
What should I use to make the mold for the tongue?
I figure it should be plaster... but is there a home made recipe for plaster?
Is plaster even the proper route to go?
I doubt you can... but can you cast silicone in a silicone mold?
Does anyone have any other ideas for this project?
I also need some information on pourable or even sprayable foam, if anyone knows anything about that...
I NEEEEED HAAALP! Please? :D

Though if you have questions about molding I dont know if she'll help.
I remember Miss Monster was running a panel at mff about making plaster molds. I never git a chance to go but since she was running the panel she may be more able to help.
There are some very nice YouTube tutorials on the the subject too. You could try that? Heck that's how I always learn things. To date I've learned how to knit, carve, set wood inlays, skin animals, tan hides, deflesh bones, fix my car, learned to use toothpaste to clean off worn plastic, the list goes on. If you want to learn it, its on YouTube.
I'm gonna go ahead and stare down youtube :p
I like to get words from people who have actually done stuff, in case I have issues, I can always harass them later for help, lol
Hay, what hide tanning method have you used?
And I use brain tanning. I don't want to destroy the skull to get to the brains though so I use eggs instead. Some tutorials also say you can use mayo.
I've not had any problems with the animals I've collected so far save the o'possum. I can't de-grease the possum and all the tutorials I've read did nothing to help. It's rolled up in saw dust now until I can figure what else to use.
It's a beautiful hide and the fur is just lovely. I'm shock I got something so big and nice from roadkill. I'd hate to have to throw it out because of some grease.
Dishsoap is no help? I heard they were one of the greasier ones to work with... Have you cheched the taxi.net forums for tips?
I'm going to be taking on tanning after the new year, I've been studying methods for a while now. I'm thinking if it goes well I want to try to apprentice somewhere.
There's a shortage of places around here that do tanning. It would be nice to take it up to a taxidermy place and ask their take on it but we only have one but it's far away and it's closing down. The most I can do for it for now is either keep trying to remove the grease and potentially destroy the hide or roll it back up and freeze it.
Maybe if they teach you a thing or two about grease removal at your apprenticeship you can pass it alone to me. I'm stumped.
The sculpt: https://www.furaffinity.net/view/9389342/
The mold: https://www.furaffinity.net/view/9404747/
All you do is use clay (I use Pluffy by Sculpey, it's wonderful) and secure it to a piece of fleece or similar fabric. MAKE SURE ITS SECURE, YOUR MOLD DEPENDS ON IT.
Make some walls around the sculpt, I just used some plastic from a binder. You can use pretty much anything as long as the plaster won't stick to it. Seal it, so the liquid plaster won't leak through the walls.
Go buy Plaster of Paris! It's only $5 for a huge box of it, and it's a 2:1 mix so it's super easy. Mix it and pour it all over your sculpt, and it should dry in about an hour.
Remove the walls of the mold and grab the fleece and pull the sculpt/fleece out of the dried mold, and TAH DAH you have a wonderful mold.
AND BETTER YET.
If you use the OOGOO method (for pawpads and noses) you don't need any kind of release agent, the OOGOO will NOT stick to the plaster. Just wait the four hours and peel it out :)
If you have any questions, ask!
I'll probably just go buy some then, and if I hit a wall, I'M COMING FOR YOU >:D
The plaster stuff, do you think I'd be able to pour some in a square form and press a skull into it to make a jawset? or would I be better off making that mold from silicone?
Can you even pour acrylic resin in plaster?
And OH GOD D: lol
As for the resin in plaster, I've never tried, but based on the chemistry I'd have to say you probably would need a mold release for that one.
There's someone here that has good tutorials, but I need to find them first.
