Humanity & Gun Control

After everything that has happened with the CT school shootings, of course, everyone's spouting off about gun control and who "if we did this ban, this wouldn't have happened, blah blah blah..." when only one thing needs to be kept in mind.
Whether you ban guns or not, human lives are fragile things and can end so easily. It's a sad fact of life, and whether you use a bullet or a blade, a life can be taken regardless.
While I am a gal who loves firearms and while I believe in my heart you should not be allowed to purchase automatic and/or assault rifles unless you have law enforcement/military background history, it still does not matter. Hell, in China, basically the same thing happened with a knife, so who's to say that only expert culinary chefs should be allowed to own sharp cutlery?
My heart bleeds and goes out those parents. I may not be a parent, but I shudder at the thought to think "What if my little cousins had been there? What if my best friend's daughter was there?"...
To think those parents will never pack another lunch...
never see that child's joy unwrapping their Christmas presents...
never see their kids bring home their first boyfriend/girlfriend...
never see those children graduate...
...
Never hold them & say how much they love again...
I remember when my sister & I were young and how our parents would kiss & hug us good-bye and wish us to have a good day at school, a place that's supposed to be safe, fun, & educational. I would never forget how excited sis & I would be when our parents would tell us they could pick us up from school since we hated our school bus rides so much. Never again will I take those memories for granted...
Hold your children and cubs close to you, folks. Life is so short and so very precious, and the sad fact of today is that psychos are everywhere and do not discriminate when they want to take lives... Treasure every little moment.

I just grieve for the families... think of the rest of those kids, now, having to go back to school in a few days. They'll never be the same.
Scarier even, is that the CT school had just put in new really tight security measures and that still did not matter...
At my high school, hell, all you would've had to do is walk through the office door (which is never locked for any reason) and put a couple of rounds in someone so that no one would be able to push the security buttons...
Truly horrifying thoughts.
I nod to your concluding sentense with a tear in my eye.
