Finally, a workspace!
Five months ago I commissioned a custom drafting table. I've been working hunched over a clipboard and it's been making my back FURIOUS, so something had to be done.
About two weeks ago, it was delivered! Oh boy! Only, it was built wrong. There is a fixed side and a hinged side, and they were swapped. And the footrest was mid shin, perfect for cracking bones. So back it went to the shop to have these mistakes fixed.
This morning it arrived once again and better than ever! Solid cherry with turquoise inlay here and there. Smooth and buttery wood. Enormous working surface so I can finally scale up my real media. The wood will become a deeper red over time and make the turquoise pop. The legs are outfitted with custom iron "boots", made by a local metal worker, for extra strength.
I must say that the furniture place was wonderful to work with and they stand behind their work. I know this table will get beat up over time, but when that happens, they will sand down and refinish the damaged surfaces. Hooray for local business!
It's a huge relief to finally have a good place to work. I've fallen behind on many things because of back issues. I'm looking forward to getting art done! In fact today has been spent inking and transferring many badges. I have brand new coloured pencils that I'm using on the coloured pencil badges, and..well watercolour badge folks don't get anything new and special. Sorry. ;3
Some pictures of the desk, just moved in:

I feel ya on the back thing... I've been wanting a drafting table for ages.
Hmm, this got me thinking, I wonder if I could get the local Amish shop to build me one. Gonna have to look into that.
I look forward to seeing some pictures post-decoration. Looks like you have a great blank canvas to work with there.
I can imagine all the art flowing from it now
Also, I caught the decorating bug from someone recently, was it you?
Have you been looking at airplants? Moss in jars? Pyrite disks in coal matrix or ammonites in shale? If so, these are only a few of the symptoms associated with Vantid Decorating Disease. If you or a loved one has these symptoms, please, do not show any sort of natural curio as it might induce high pitched vocalizations and seek immediate medical advice. Hint: You won't get any.
