It's kind of like how I always write certain letters a specific way when writing formulas that's different from my normal handwriting. (Otherwise I'd confuse dipole moment with polarization, I'd confuse periods with time constants, my "t"s would look like "+"s, my "l"s would look like "1"s, kappa would look like "K", and my "x"s would look like chis and vector products. That would SUCK!)
