A tasteless, unfounded and gratuitously offensive journal...

Read the post below with a grain of salt! It's not MEANT to be a bash, but sometimes it could be neccesary.
Here. This is the interactive map from Slate and @gundeaths whom sadly mark how many men, women and children died by firearms in the United States ofArmsAmerica since the Newtown-massacre on the 14th of december.
Total tally so far: 269 deaths in 14 days!
2 firemen were added at christmas eve. Shot by a sick F**K with a gun whom set his own house on fire and waited in the bushes to pop these two heroes in an ambush, just because he could do it.
It seems that the answer to guns in the US ofArms America is simply more guns. It doesn't surprise anyone that the country's largest pew-pew-Walmart sold more mags within 3 days than they did in the last 3 years!
It can be funny if it wasn't so weird: getting a gun as a present, and then tweet or instagram it (and photos). Hell yeah!
It's also a fun idea to scoop around this pop-pop-pop-auction site, where these gifts untimately end up.
Guns... It's just a cooltour. A video also exists on the net which goes on about a firearms store which is nearly out of its complete stock. The name? FIREARMAGEDDON.
Are there seriously no Americans who want to stop this shooting? Maybe evan a ban on semi-automatic weaponry for the general populace? Yes: there are parents who are in favor of toy-gun control, because the nerf gun is to blame.
How much further can one's head be in its own ass? You know what? Never mind...
*sigh*
If you have read the above post, you should know this is based om an opinion on a dutch website, which I just couldn't resist reblogging.
I myself am just baffled by the deathtoll in just 14 days because some asshat had access to a weapon.
Ofcourse: most people are not like this, mind you!
I hope this journl will open up a healthy debate, maybe even somewhere in the upper regions in the American government. (I know it propably will not, but here's to hoping!)

Our country was founded on the principal of defending yourself, not only against criminals but governments who seek to take your freedoms. If you take away the ability to defend, you take away all freedom.
Ofcourse, USA is a lot bigger (in country size and people's numbers) than the Netherlands, but it lacks more social cohesion and a sense of social control than the Netherlands do. It just baffles me why some fruitcakes CAN take a gun and just start a killling spree.
Ofcourse, Americans (and everyone else in the world for that matter) have the right to defend themselves, but when it comes to guns, I believe it's a right they must earn, instead of being given freely, because the constitution dictates it. But I do ask myself: can people only defend themselves with possible deadly firearms? Have they forgotten there are other ways to fight for your freedom?
Because this journal was meant to be taken with a grain of salt, doesn't mean I'm angry at all people who take other peoples lives just because of some selfish reason.
Thank you for your opinion. It's much appreciated, and I hope I started something that will remain a healthy debate with my journal, albeit harshly written. :)
As far as defending yourself goes, you are right to a point, people should defend themselves according to the situation. I really do not condone people who just go and blow someone away for punching them or something, a taser would be much more plausible. But on the same note, a taser doesnt do much against a .45 in your face.
Earning your right to your weapons generally works, if you buy legit. But you can get just about any weapon online with little to no background check. If that was clamped down on better then things would be much more handle-able. There are ways of controlling guns, without taking them away. But people are so quick to jump to just getting rid of all of them and blaiming the guns themselves instead of the people.
I never have understood why people blaim the guns lol, you dont blaim the car when a person runs someone down.
Anyhow, love debates like these, so i will stay involved as long as it stays alive>^-^<
People who go on a killing spree know this as well, and should be held accountable, but being the cowards they are, they always commit suicide to prevent any repercussions made by the (local) government, leaving every family involved (including the family of the perp) with enough questions to last a lifetime.
What I'm trying to say here is that we all need to be more mindful of each other. I know it sounds like a utopia, but I don't see how it would improve any other way.
I see it everyday in my hometown as well. There's this kid that's always silent, and doesn't talk much. Those kids are the ones that do the most horrible things when you look back in history for similar shooting-incidents. It starts with the parents who need to grow a pair, and actually talk to their spouse.
On a less serious note: It seems my journal has gone unnoticed. :) Oh well, still liking the debate, though!
To further my point though, there is actually a high number of vehicle related murders in the world, but they are not always massacre type fatalities. That is why you generally do not hear about them outside of very local media. The world media only posts what they think will further their goals of getting higher ratings and supporting causes that they think will get them higher ratings. Just last year we had a psychopath near here that purposefully pushed a bus full of people off of a mountain road with his SUV and killed them all.
I agree, people definitely need to be more educated, the problem with that is not everyone will be willing to do it. The best way to regulate weapons would be to just embed a tracking device, something like an isotope in the metal that sets off radiation detectors. Slowly replace the current weapons with these, then keep track of them. Require licensing to own a firearm and a training course. Tighten the grip on online weapons sells, and reduce the ways that bad people can get them.
Banning lethal weapons as you said is a very difficult objective to fulfill. Any weapon can be considered lethal. Even a taser under the proper circumstances can be lethal. Most any firearm has the potential to kill with a single bullet. Even the low end pellet rifles have statistics. So it falls down to deciding just exactly what we must consider a lethal weapon and whether banning it will increase or hinder the greater good. For this reason, I really see no point in banning any thing. I am all for controlling who has the weapons though. It is a very tricky problem all in all.
It also brings up the old saying, "Rules where meant to be broken." because no matter what, the bad people who intend to do bad with the guns or any type of weapon, will always find a way to do so. That is inevitable.
It would be best if people would just accept responsibility for their own actions. Today's society is far too lenient and tries to find ways of shucking the blame onto someone or something else, generally not even related. Too many criminals get off on insanity pleas or blame their parents. Next to brainwashing, no one can make you do what you do not want to do.
