Personally I don't care whether someone gives 'god' authority or not. However, if you are gonna give 'god' authority, DO SO. Don't start dictating the population because YOU think 'He''d like it that way. That's not giving god authority, that's running a totalitarian state using 'god' as an excuse. I thought the whole point of 'god' was that one should believe in 'Him' yourself rather then just do as you're told. Clearly some people disagree.

Actually I was thinking about that last night. One of the comments came from a soldier who said that he could never serve with gay guys because he couldn't deal with thinking the guy beside him in the foxhole might be "checking me out"...and all I could think was that if it bothered him THAT much, that it's probably a good indication that there's something wrong with him--not the other guy.

If a guy is so immature and insecure that he's disturbed THAT much about being checking out by another guy, I would argue that he doesn't have the mental capacity to be allowed an automatic assault weapon, much less be a soldier representing a country that is supposed to be an example of liberty and personal freedom to the rest of the world.

you know you're definitely right about it being scary that they allow assholes like that to serve. And I guarantee you its not the gay guys doing all the "friendly fire" incidents. I know for a fact that illegal shit goes down all the time because nobody has tabs on them and that pisses me right the hell off. As a result the guys were often closer to each other and were more willing to back each other up in a fight, and they ended up with fewer losses because they were more tight-knit and cohesive as a unit because of the strong emotional bonds there.

Several years ago, the Canadian Court of Human Rights ruled that prohibiting gays in the Canadian military was a human rights violation. I saw a fascinating interview with the officer who was tasked with achieving this integration. He said that he expected that there would be many problems and that it would take a long time. There weren't, and it didn't. He actually said rather wistfully that it was so easy that he didn't think that it would count much toward a promotion!

LOL He didn't have ignorant, provincial and obdurate Americans to deal with. I wish this country was as progressive as Canada in many ways.
