Journal Question: "I'm not really into this...."
From being in this fandom for a few years, I'm come to terms it's basically impossible to avoid things you don't "like" (artwork wise) either from your submissions or from browsing the frontpage, even if you only follow SFW or clean artists, you're still going to have obviously sexual artwork come up in your submissions and a lot of that artwork is going to considered "fetish." Artists do what they're paid to do, and not all the time is that paid work vanilla. But no matter what, every time you see a piece of artwork posted by a popular artist someone WILL make this comment
"I'm not really into XXX.. but I really like it!
or
I really DON'T like XXX fetish.. but I find this SO hot~"
Every time I see this comment, which I've seen 100's of times. I always try to interpret what they're actually trying to say and thinking about it too hard makes me irritated. Most of the time I see it as "Hey I'm not a sick fuck like you for commissioning this fetish related art, but for some reason that makes me feel like a horrible human being, this piece of artwork gives me a rager" I really just find this example of commenting such a backwards way to do it. Why do you have to defend yourself? Why can't you just state "wow, I really like this, good job." Why do you have to let 500 furries know "hey just so ya'll know.. I'm not into this sick shit" Why can't you just like something for what it is? If you really do like it.. just say you like it?
These are the things I think about when I browse submissions. I feel as though everyone's guilty of this at some point,. I know I've gotten it on a few of my taur submissions. I feel (though I can't find any particular instances) that I've done it at least once and just don't understand why I couldn't have just left it out. So I just wanted to see what people thought about it is all.

To respond I think that people do indeed say stuff like that
I for one just don't comment if its something I don't like
If it is then I say
Omg I love that ass wow that is one nice butt I might have to commission you for butts of that caliber later on
It could go either way though. Some people are just weird when it comes to commenting and I don't think they spend time carefully plotting what is POLITE to say.
But thanks for your insight!
If anything, shouldn't you be pleased that at least they can appreciate what you commission on a deeper level other than just aesthetically? They aren't being rude, they're complimenting the art. If they said something like "Well this is pretty fucked up, but I could still get off to this," that's something else entirely.
I definitely agree that this isn't the case all the time, and I should have made that a bit more clear. I just see it a lot and the comment itself makes me curious. But I do think SOME of what I put above is more or less what I'm trying to get at. These are mostly just things I think about when I'm lieing in my bed trying to fall asleep and sometimes I like to put them into words. But I do appreciate your insight!
A good depiction of a hot character who's sexually excited is stimulating, even if the reason they're excited isn't something that excites me.
Just because a particular fetish doesn't turn my crank doesn't mean I think that anyone else is sick because it turns theirs. If I say that something isn't my thing, that's all I mean -- it's not my thing. If I mean to say that it's sick, I'll say so.
I want to leave a comment on these images, but I feel as though it would fall into the pitfall you're mentioning here, Jus-key. And I have an explanation for your reasoning. I believe people leave comments like those you mentioned because they only see the porn and particular fetish or kink it portrays, and not other more underlying details, such as the style of the work or whatever else. I think these people, myself included, are rather closeted when it comes to porn and especially the kinky, high-octane stuff. If I have offended anyone just now, I apologize. If you have any questions, just respond, and I'll get back to you in a fairly timely manner.
