Odd facts about animal anatomy!

Today I learned that a wolf's hind paws are 20% smaller than their front paws. This made me wonder what other things I didn't know that might effect my art.
Also lions and canines only have dewclaws on their front paws. (which is why i often draw my characters with five 'fingers' and four toes.)That probably applies to all animals with dewclaws, but I only know for sure about those two.
Does anyone else know any odd physical facts like that, or common misconceptions about animals?
This would probably help educate a lot of us.

Also I hate seeing little puppys get their dewclaws clipped off... AND dobermans with cropped ears and tails. I think it's sad. :(
Rabbits don't have pawpads and it bothers me SO MUCH when I see someone drawing rabbits with pawpads. Sigh.
It also bugs me how people always lump rats and mice together. Yes they are similar, but they have a lot of different traits. Like rats are bigger, smarter, and more social than mice. This cracks me up in books when they make the rats bad and the mice good, because pet rats tend to be much sweeter than pet mice. Not that mice are bad, but rats are just more cuddly.
