Haha a lot of why I specifically was drawn to your art in the first place is because of your use of crosshatching. I'm obsessed with that type of shading. So yeah I prefer crosshatching.

This is seeming like a pretty unanimous preference. Heh.

Both styles are good! I think it really depends on context and mood though. Like I think the scratchy lines looks great with all the dark colors and 'leather' theme, but if it was those lines on the other pic I don't think it would look as well... and vise versa. I think the scratchy lines does well with the shading so take that into consideration when you're doing a piece that consists of a lot of dark colors and keep the smooth lines when you're doing a lot of light 'cartoony' colors.

I'm personally a fan of crosshatching. It's a method of adding shadowing that harken's back to the art style of comics strips because the over-use of flash and other digital based art programs killed the need for crosshatching.

Gotta go with the crowd, here - I think you make excellent use of crosshatching, as so few people do nowadays :)
