1 hour...1 f*cking hour...The Fanimecon hotel reservations manager opened today at noon. I was sitting in the breakroom on my lunch, ready to snap up a reservation to the hilton, marriot, or fairmont. And the link they provided went only to the old reservation site. So I waited and kept checking to see when they would fix the link to go to the new site. They fixed the link to go to the new registration site for the con. But nothing for the hotel reservations. After an hour I notice a tiny (One word) link in an old post dated for last year. I clicked it on a whim and was taken to the new site instantly...where the hotels in the area were largely already booked full...I was pissed. I didn't care which hotel I got, I just needed one so I could actually GO to the con. So I booked into the Holiday inn. Not exactly a quick walk to the convention center, but still within the city. My friend who was supposed to be booking the hotel at the same time had had to step out unexpectedly. When he heard, he was about as livid as I was and wrote an angry email to the managers before calling them. He managed to get a one bed room at the fairmont for friday-sunday. So we're gonna drive up that thursday night as usual, and sleep in his car before checking into the fairmont friday morning. This is madness. How could the hotels largely sell out of rooms in 1 hour? There are a few rooms left for specific days, say the fairmont has one bed rooms available on saturday only. It's only going to get crazier too as fanimecon gets a little bigger every year. Suppose if I want to keep attending my favorite con I'm gonna have to be more vigilant, and keep my fingers crossed that I'm fast enough/can find a reliable internet connection when they open the freaking floodgates for hotel reservations.
