When I was living in Cali, there were always reenactment groups and all sorts of cons... I want to go to a furry Con in a fursuit so much... If I dont, I may explode.

you could start saving up to make a fursuit :D
its a good thing to save up for, and its probably a hell of a lot cheaper than making a whole viking getup with time appropriate design and jewelry

I roll in West kingdom myself. I play late period Venetian for the most part but the group Im in has practically everything from Greek onwards.

It must be cool going to events over there cuz there is so much of the actual history about.

im in Nordmark, me and my friend joined a crew from Sweden, but im also in a local Viking reenactment group, and we're pretty heavy on historical accuracy, most clothes are sown after archeological finds around Scandinavia c:

most of my getup is from digs in Denmark and Greenland

Spiffy. I generally look at paintings for reference. Renaissance and all that. The hardest part is finding the right brocade or lace. If you are making a simpler dress then plain silk and linen will do, but once you start getting fancy? Embroidery and beading and slashing and all manner of fripperies. I still need to build up my collection of baubles and accessories to look like a proper Venetian lady, which involve lots of pearls. Its amazing how having all the right accessories really round out a period outfit.

Im not much of a costumer myself, though I seem to have a lot of the skills I need to be one... I just prefer to do other things. My laurel and I are actually trying to foster more fine art in our kingdom. We have a good number of calligraphers in the West, as well as costumers, carpenters, and crafters of stuff, but no painters. And I rather like oil painting. :3

yea, one seems to pick up a trick or two when you make your own dresses c:
most of my stuff is hand-sown, or all visible stitches hand-sown, so its time consuming.
my flatmate does embroidery and tablet weave, and needle binding for gloves, socks and such. super industrious!
linen and wool is what we use the most, and the glass beads sometimes get really expensive :C

but the end result is all worth it <3

mostly its tailors and people who needlebind, sew and embroider things c:

but we sort of set a high standard, both for costumes and for the crafts that we sell, so all is good

nothing wrong with a high standard, especially in the SCA. High standards in the SCA lead to general badassery. :3
