Wow.... disney isn't as behind as I thought. They get that having a semi-classic style still works if you refine it. Makes me glad things like the Frog Princess did so well; it shows that you don't need superior animation with computers to create art; it's more about doing what you can with what you have ^~^

I've always thought Pixar/Disney were tops when it came to creating usable, well-conceived programs to make unheard of animation techniques possible.

Yeah they tend to pioneer the creation of new technology for animation, so that statement about them not needing superior technology is really awkward sounding to me.

True, hence the semi-classic statement. My point was it's good to know they still respect old-style animation style and looks while moving forward. I dread the day they make the full jump to 3-D only CG work with no flat animation. I liked the Frog Princess. It reminded me of my childhood while still being new with how they pushed what you could do with flat-animation. That, and the Shadowman was the perfect mix of evil and cowardice. Still, I'm not much of an animation person so I don't know much .w.

Idek I like CG though? Well honestly I adore both forms for their unique merits and being an animation student I kinda geek out about it a lot oops!

But yeah I would say I can feel the same in a fear of snuffing out 2D animation. While CG and 3D is amazing, so is 2D, and it's also the roots of the others so it'd be a disgusting shame if it was phased out of our artistic workings!

Soon, TV and youtube might be the only places you'll find 2-D animation. Then nowhere. It's slowly but surely dying out.... I liked the movies that payed homage to film noir. they weren't quite noir, but they showed it was loved. If 2-D animation really does die out, I have hope in the world of animation that someone will bring it back with a unique revival that pays homage to it and renews it for future generations. In the end, no entertainment medium ever truly dies out.... it just fades away for a while. Who knows, maybe the love for it by our generation will make it start to grow again simply because of the novelty of it mixed with how little people are using it. Bah, I'm too much of a rambler, sorry .w. I get optimistic and talkative about the weirdest things.

Neh it's fine haha. Idek I personally think it'll take a lot to completely wipe out 2D from all visual media. 2D in films is a bit rarer but I do really enjoy the leaps and bounds made in CG through it. However a good 2D film would be rEALLY GREAT.

Would you want 100% 2-D or 2-D with CG accompaniment like backgrounds, moving objects, etc.

Either is fine with me, both have their merits but it also depends on the film. Some styles and stories work well with the meshing of the two, others don't.

That is an animated film I have yet to watch on my list.

It's not HORRIBLE, it has some funny and well-written moments.... it just feels like it depends too much on the animation for the over-all enjoyment of the film. Still, it's worth a watch at least once.

Well like I said it depends on the situation for how well the two can mesh.

Paperman would be an example of the two forms getting along very well.

That was gorgeous. I really hope the fact that this has gained so much notoriety has an influence on the animation world. Ive been a bit bitter since CG pretty much took over for feature length animation. I appreciate it for what it is, but its lost its novelty and i think its time for some balance and diversity.
