PT will certainly not go away, definitely not. Not for the Army. AIT has PT, all duty stations have PT in the morning. Unlike the air force, every single place I went in the Army we did PT first thing in the morning every week day. Even in the desert of Kuwait. I even had my turn to instruct a PT session, then you get to torture everyone. They didn't like me instructing, the E-6's complained to my boss about my routine XD
Makes me happy to hear you haven't given up. AIT is certainly easier. And in my case was able to go to an internet café almost every weekend. Good luck out there :)
I did basic training in Fort Lenardwood. Interesting place. Lots of trees. My AIT was 12 weeks though, being automated logistics... (supply), that was in Fort Lee Virginia. After that I got to go back home for about a month, then went off to South Korea for a year as my first duty station. It was fun over there, had a lot of fun. Got to go home for a bit after that, then I went to Fort Bragg, NC for the rest of my time in the service. While there I deployed with my unit to Kuwait for 9 months in 2003 for Operation Iraqi Freedom, right when they were crossing the border into Iraq. That was interesting, would have preferred staying in South Korea though lol.
Throwing the live grenades in basic was quite fun, scary though. For me I couldn't throw the metal balls they had us train with far enough for the life of me. They marked something on my helmet as someone to watch out for as a handicap. I was the first one to go for the live throw. Was scary. But I did it :D
Kuwait was nice and warm almost all the time though. Warm to downright hot lol. South Korea got hot in summers, and got very cold in Winters. We usually did PT in the snow. Having the little warming packs that self-heat that you can stick in your boots and gloves was just amazing.
When I did all my Army training (basic + AIT) it was during summer so at least all that went by with it warm outside.
