Oz is from Australia. When you count in the airfares, the extra baggage for the fursuits etc then one might as well make sure that you have the space when you get there. Currently the cheapest flight is $1100.

There are hotels 19 miles away from the convention which isn't bad at all... Saying you aren't going to something just because things aren't perfect is a bit of a long shot. Considering how horrible AC's rooming is becoming...

Whilst I understand you are entitled to your view on the situation. Having said that, you know me about as much as I know you.
I don't appreciate you being a smart ass to one of my oldest friends who knows me very well.

The point is, this is how I feel, this is how I want the con to play out. If you knew me, you would know why I don't like rooming in any other hotel besides the Westin for Anthrocon.
So much so that yes, if I don't. It is a deal breaker for me to attend the convention.
Not attending isn't the end of the world, and there will be others. So in that regard you are right. It isn't a MUST have to go, I'm sure I'll get over it if I can't.

Whilst I appreciate suggestions, offers and alternatives. This is just the way it is.
If I'm going to spend thousands to attend a convention on the other side of the world. I'd like it to be right and not have to compromise for the sake of a furry convention.
Which, there are plenty more out there. Just making AC would of worked better for me because I enjoyed the previous one so much and wanted to do another Duke music video dance number with everyone.

Good luck, Oz! I understand how you feel about being in the con hotel. It's really a pain to stay somewhere else when the con is in one place. I've not gone to cons because of it myself so it's kinda nice to see I'm not the only one that feels that way. Anyway, I wish you all the best getting the room you desire. ^_^ If I can make it, it'd be nice to see you again since we haven't chatted since the cruise. I'll finally have my own suit too.

Given my experience with time zones, I don't blame you. That and I also know how much more comfortable it is just having your own room and not sharing with randoms.

Good luck on rooms and getting back over. I know how it is not wanting to stay in overflow hotels as a fursuiter. It's always good to be in the same hotel, but seems all the big cons are booking up really fast these days. If I see anyone post about giving up their room, I'll let you know. As a last ditch effort you could call the hotel directly and just check. sometimes they hold a couple of rooms just in case or have first insight into cancelations. I've had to do that before, but you can often get the same con rate and ask them to give you one of the extra rooms. A lot of times they are holding them for folks like flight crews from airlines.

the hosting hotel sounds like a good idea I stayed at one that was within walking distance and got robbed if you stayed at one of them you would have to travel in a large group or have protection.
and what about food? that place locks up like fort knox before dark most of the time

I can't guarantee anything but I'll see if I can find anything. Of course I'm not sure how many people are willing to just give up there room just like that, so is there any chance you'd be willing to negotiate that part? ^^;

Maybe grab a room close by...and offer a switch (and some monetary) persuasion to switch rooms? Thats what I did for Otakon. I offered my room and $200 spending cash for them at the convention.

See this is why I don't go booking other rooms at cons that I know I can do.. but I do this for FC because it's local and granted it cost me a bit this year but y'know what? I had fun :D

Know how ya feel, I don't room at cons at all, I only go to ones I can drive to daily. Can't sleep in odd beds.

So I'll sadly never go to anthrocon

For my anthrocon = con-money and like a profit convention and not a non-profit convention

Also, remember. No balloons are allowed out at AC either. ;)

I saved two convention about that ,
People leave balloon on the top and finish to pop on the light.
For my self when i see a balloon on the top i just try to take it.
