Guidelines for New Fables Submissions
Submissions are currently OPEN
New Fables is looking for creative, original stories that use anthropomorphic animal characters to tell basic human stories. We favor stories in a literary tradition — not only fables and folk tales, but well-constructed stories in which the animal characterization is part of the larger theme of the work. It is highly recommended that you pick up one of our previous issues to see what kind of material we publish.
Submit Electronically: Please send all submissions in plain text, MS Word, or Adobe PDF format to submissions[at]newfables.com along with a return e-mail address for contact. All submissions will be acknowledged within one month.
Short Stories: Stories of any length will be considered, but the chance of getting editorial feedback decreases markedly for stories longer than 15,000 words. Payment is 1/2c per word.
Poetry: Poems that require particular formatting should note that in the submission. Poems are paid at a flat rate of $20.
Artwork: New Fables prefers artwork that tells or implies a story. Submitted art should be b/w or grey-scale at a minimum of 300 dpi in TIFF or Adobe Photoshop format. Artwork is paid at a flat rate of $20 per page.
