On DmC and "Gamer Entitlement"

General
So as DmC underpreforms Capcom scales back it's sales predictions from 2 million to 1.2 million well, seems the drama won't stop. And again the Godwin of corporate vs. consumer in video games rears it's ugly head once more.
"Entitlement"
However, now it reaches what might be a truly stupid zenith.
It seems fans of the classuic DMC games, like myself, simply aren't biting. "My copy" was a used one a friend let me borrow. Maybe it was alienating them. Maybe it how openly hostile Ninja Theory came off to fans who complained, all of them, and how dismissive they seemed to treat the series they had to rework. Maybe it was the buggy game, the overall focus on platformer and (Admittingly) gorgeous and creative environments at the expense of the series' trakemark deep combat.
So now supporters, and so called "Gamer Journalists" are calling people enitlted. Why?

You're reading this right.
DmC naysyaers are crazy, whiny, enlisted, entilted babies!
...For not forking over 60 bucks for a game they don't want.
I'm not angry. I'm fucking laughing at this. Seriously, this is hysterical.
"You killed a frnachise you love ot of spite!"
Yeah yeah, look, everything time nerds bitch about something..."Don't like it, don't buy it!" or "Vote with your wallet!". Well guess what happened here?!
And yet people are STILL be vindicated over it, like these fucking greedy, sleazy corporations deserve your money no matter what they pump out.
"Entitlement' is quickly becoming the Godwin for gamers. It's used as a cop out to shut down actual discussion, but never addresses actual complaints, merely ignores them.

I don't think it argues anywhere that people who disagree what was done should go buy the game anyways.
“Look, kids, the verdict is in: DmC is a lot of fun,”
>Review scores being an objective score of quality
“The existence of DmC: Devil May Cry doesn’t stop the earlier games existing,It doesn’t betray or compromise that existing (incoherent) vision you love so much. If Microsoft threw up in a puddle and sold it under the name “Halo 5″ it wouldn’t stop Halo and its sequels being what they are.”
Three words: Star Wars Prequels.
Her opinion is basically "The game's fun and I dunno what are you all yappin' on about" which is a fair stance, and she's not asserting the piece of obvious bullshit that people not buying a game they don't like are somehow "entitled"
I'd have been less mild.
And, "There's nothing wrong with the game, I dunno whatcher fussing about" is a perfectly legitimate opinion in a case like this. You're free to disagree of course, even consider it lack of taste or whatever, but holding it isn't wrong per se, because this is not a factual matter - gaming tastes vary.
She decried people raising an unnecessary circus. If anything your style of argument only proves her right.
>asserting that they're all whiny babies
Entire article
>directly calling the people who hate the game "kids"
"Look, kids, the verdict is in: DmC is a lot of fun."
>claiming that a set of subjective views from a few people is "the verdict"
See above quote
>displaying that she obviously didn't even like DMC to begin with
"Dante’s universe was starting to wear thin. It didn’t start in a strong place."
"hodge-podge"
"it started making shit up on the fly and tidying up afterwards."
"the franchise’s fiction and canon is not among the great works our industry has produced; it’s all style and no substance."
"It doesn’t betray or compromise that existing (incoherent) vision you love so much."
"writing itself into problems it can’t solve by having a woman smash through a window on a motorcycle and flash her tits."
>claiming DMC was created to get PS2s off the shelves
"Dante wasn’t written to have substance, he was designed with style, to take advantage of the then-new PlayStation 2′s graphical capabilities. This was a video game franchise designed to sell a lot of units as quickly as possible on the expensive new platform, not to push the boundaries of the artform."
>insisting the new game has done plenty of good for the franchise
"What I do not understand is the blithering insanity of Devil May Cry fans in the face of a reboot which does the franchise no harm and by all accounts, quite a lot of good."
>lashing out at anyone who dares point out how heavily paid off these "journalists" are
"some of you have gone so far as to ... accuse VG247 and its peers of corruption, a charge which stinks of conspiracy-theory paranoia"
>watering all the arguments down to "It's all about the hair"
"whenever I read some embarrassing comment about how Dante’s hair colour means DmC: Devil May Cry isn’t a solid, excellent game well-worth your time."
"You are throwing a hissy fit because a character in a spin-off video game has a different backstory and hair colour to the one you’re used to."
"complete absence of logic behind this ill-will"
"write thousands of words of rabid vitriol against Dante’s hair colour"
>calling us all neckbearded imbeciles with no life
"I’m ashamed to be sharing an arbitrary demographic grouping with such raving imbeciles."
"I shudder to think what will happen if you are ever required to ... shave off your neckbeard."
"Go outside. Get some fresh air. Volunteer at a soup kitchen."
>telling us to "grow the fuck up" like the oh so professional journalist she supposedly is
"Grow the fuck up."
>and finishing off by stating her opinion as if it's stone-cold fact that we'll surely see for ourselves if we shell out $60 to play this game we know we don't like.
"And try DmC: Devil May Cry, because it’s a good video game. Remember how you used to like those?"
And just because you'd be less mild doesn't mean it's alright. She's an allegded "Professional" act like one. I'm sick of the fct every major gaming press has the integrity and standards of the corporate PR division. Hell the Marketing and PR guys are less disgusting because that's there fucking job. The gaming press is way too buddy-buddy and friendly with the things they're supposed to be criticizing. Remember that "Why Do People Hate EA?" thing IGN ran last year that was such blatant corporate asskissing everyone mocked it?

This pretty much says what I said but worth a read. Kain is probably the only jorunalist these days who seems to know what he's talking about.
However, in the previous article , I don't see half the things Cid claims are there - seems to be raeg talking.
As for the rest of it . . . I don't think I have ever seen super objective reviews so it doesn't surprise me. Hell, the peak of all was Heavy Metal FAKK 2 review where in the czech gaming magazine I used to read at the time there were two conflicting ones - one placed it into high 80s and the other gave it 20%, explicitly 10% for each breast of the player character. (I never played the game, but the review was something memorable)
Never mind the fact how I'm used to some of my favourite movies ever having absolute crap scores be it Rotten Tomatoes or CSFD (czechoslovak film database) - once again, for me at least ,a review's score isn't as interesting as what the text says, as a founded opinion.
But yeah . . . in other words, I can't bring my reaction to be anything above "meh" level at either.
I think I heard about something like that in the ENglish speaking word. Dead or Alive Extreme BEach Volleyball (Yes, it exists.). Someone gave it two points for each breast.
I tend to use it it more to see what movies/games/books/whatever are about. I find metacritic user scores interesting, if only because while some reviewers can be good many tend to gloss over political issues. On the vidya side of things at least (Suff like Day-One DLC and other things tend to not be spoken about). Still I get what you're saying. I'm more finding it fascinating people are resorting to demonizing people for not buying something they don't want.
Maybe I'm just cynical but the death threats and other stupid shit tends to be so common I don't register it. I feel it's best to ignore that. Don't group your other critics in with those loonies because it makes you look arrogant. And arrogance is in a surplus in this species.
