So I came to the realization yesterday that the Gen 6 Fire-type starter Pokemon will evolve to be dual-type. But the good news is, it won't be Fire/Fighting. Instead, I am lead to believe that Fennekin will evolve into a Fire/Flying type. I actually have supporting evidence of this, as follows:
First, there's this: Fennekin's ears are stuffed with Torchics. I don't know who noticed it, but it's a very good observation. In fact, in the official Nintendo renderings of Fennekin, seen HERE, the tufts do indeed look like feathers. Subtlety? Perhaps.
Next is the similarity in pronunciation of the first syllable of the word "Fennec" and the first syllable of the word "phoenix." Yes, I know they're spelled differently, but the phonetics are the strikingly similar. I was tipped off to this resemblance by the back of someone's shirt I saw yesterday, advertising for a particular concert by Tenacious D: Rize of the Fenix.
Now, those are the two signs I've seen indicating that Fennekin will evolve to a Fire/Flying type. There might be more hints out there somewhere, but I guess we won't know for sure until Nintendo releases more information.
