Moo!
So, I downloaded it and gave it a try today... I... was dissatisfied.
The game felt very much like the worst parts of wow crossed with the worst parts of FF11.
Not that it was all bad, but my initial experience... I played 10 minutes and almost quit outright when the prologue mission I was on broke making it impossible to beat.
So then I jumped to the main game, and played until about lvl 7. The questing system is so cut and dried WoW like, that it was painful. I got sick of Wow's quest years before I quit wow. the only 3 types of quests I found were, go here, kill things; go here, kill things; bring back things; go here, talk to some jackwagon to get the next fetch quest.
Maybe I'm just hooked on guildwars 2 now. I have seen what a quest system can be, and I can't go back to the predictable, ignorable, pointless drivle. Kill 5 kobolds and report back to me is NOT my idea of adventure. This my friends, is what we call grind for the sake of subscription time. But tera no longer has a subscription... drop the act.
Story is my big thing though, when I am playing a game, I want to be immersed in the world, to feel a part of it. Tera drops you in, knowing nothing, and then gives you a few paragraphs to read in your story quests.. referencing things that I didn't have a clue about since the prologue mission bugged out. (Oh and I was suggested to restart the game to fix the bug.. but that deleted ALL OF MY PROGRESS in the prologue... wtf?!)
The story missions were the same damn fetch and go talk to asshat over there as everything else as well! I really disliked guildwars 2's storyline, but at least there I had interesting things to do, I just happened to think the story was badly written, thought out, and most of the characters rather annoying. (Except your mentor when you join a faction).
Even wow had more story, its true you didn't have any forking or anything, but at least you had an interesting narrative with some fun things to do.
Now to the better side, Tera's graphics are quite nice, and the races interesting... Though not sure what to think about the 1000 year old pre-pubescent girl race, wearing a nightgown with her panties showing... fucking koreans :P The classes are kinda standard, ranger, warrior, wizard, cleric, rogue... not much else to say about it. I tried a ranger. Starts you out with 2 skills, dodge and shoot. and you have to stand still to use your abilities. (So much for the "In tera you have to keep moving!" bullshit.. Sorry, guildwars does that a thousand times better, even WoW allows me to move and attack at the same time!)
The last thing I want to poke a finger at, community interaction. Tera limits your communications drastically. You cannot talk in public until lvl 5, you cannot talk in global until lvl 20. You can whisper people from lvl 1 though. Also, there is absolutely NOTHING to push people to group up. In fact I only saw maybe 3 or 4 people, and they were init-tagging monsters to get the kill. Yes, tera uses that godawful system that, whoever gets the first hit gets the reward. There seems to be some EXP sharing method, but they didn't count toward quest. Oh and from what I could tell, you could take other people's loot too. ( I know I took some one else's accidentally)
All in all, there is nothing new here in the beginning, nothing to grab my attention, and a lot of backsliding from the modern MMO. But I couldn't stomach it far enough to see if there was any more.
