Hoo-Boy...! (Escalation rant)

So, Tension between Russia and the U.S. are rising again. Am I the only person who takes the phrase "learn from history" into account? This didn't end well last time, and it won't end well this time either.
But, you know, as much as I want to blame Russia, I, as an American, actually do blame The United States for this one. I know there's at least one US nutter watching me who'll just discount my argument without reading, let alone responding intelligently, but for the rest of you, hear me out.
This whole world discourse began when Osama orchestrated an attack on the US. We responded by attacking Afghanistan where we had intel that he was hiding. Okay, fine. Good even. We don't need genocidal fanatics like that one in the world anyway.
Next we attacked Iraq for ???. Really, does anyone actually know what grounds we attacked them on again? I think it was weapons of mass destruction or spreading democracy or something like that. Either way, it boiled down to oil in the end, which Saddam Hussein Scorched Earth policy'd from us. Good on 'im.
Now let me make something clear. I didn't like Hussein as a person. He was a terrible guy who did terrible things. But, it's becoming increasingly obvious to me that he had to do such terrible thing, oppressing his people like that to keep them under control. I mean, we went over there and they go bonkers under a sudden rule of kindness. And what's more the press tries to pawn this off to us as a good thing because they're exploring their new democracy or some such crap. First of all, press, it's called a republic, not a democracy. Second, we just screwed up the world order over there, now we can't get out. Learn anything from Vietnam, US? No. Apparently not. And I'll assume we won't learn anything from this one either. Provided we get out before the Russians turn us into dust in the wind.
So, now the Russians go into Georgia looking for oil, but apparently it's only okay for the US to screw us the world to satisfy it's own needs, because we jumped on for it in a heartbeat. Now, they're pointing guns at us, we're setting up missile silos in Europe, filled with weapons of mass destruction that was our other reason for attacking Iraq, I believe... It's just a nice big... What's the word...? For lack of a better word, I suppose I'll go with "clusterfuck." Pardon my language.
Now, again, let's face facts. Russia wants oil. If we'd left them alone, they'd leave us alone. As everyone knows, America has sucked so much oil out of it's self, our cities are really just sitting on a hollowed out crust of ground. They'd have no reason to attack us. Knowing President Bush, I'd have to say this whole thing began because he thought they meant the Georgia in the United States and thought we were under attack. Gotta give that guy one thing, at least he's consistent.
And while we're on the subject, ever notice how the US only tries to "spread democracy" to places with oil or cash flow or fanaticism? Here's a thought, why don't we try being the world police force to someone who actually needs/wants us around, huh? Maybe helping Darfur instead? Ending a genocide, huh? Sound good? What's that? Is there anything for us to take from them after? Well... no, but... Wait, no, don't walk away! They actually want our help! Merf...
Anyway, at this rate, it looks like I won't make it back to Australia before getting vaporized. If anyone wonders, I'll be living in Pennsylvania over the uncoming months. If a nuke hits there, then you can be worried for me. ^^;
Also, PLEASE, if anyone knows a good art program for the Mac, I really need it. Otherwise, I won't have much for you guys over the next few months. I ship out for collage this Sunday, so...
Wish me luck and take care everyone.

P.S.: I should probably apologise for anything up in the rant that isn't quite accurate. I've gotten some other info since. If the media could keep their story straight, maybe I wouldn't have convinced myself that I might not be 100% perfect at ranting.
...But I still think America's in the wrong for getting involved, especially to the point to putting missile silos in Poland. Big mistake. Always.

This could end badly, or it could just de-escalate. I'm doubtful the nuke's will be fired, since we have a good ton of 'em ourselves. If our fuckingdumbasspieceofshit leaders don't stop, we're going to have another missile crises on our hands. Gack.
it's only a matter of time

In other words, Georgia started it. However, it's still quite true that our government is deliberately increasing tensions between the US and Russia. I'm so tired of getting lied to as a general domestic policy. I have to watch foreign news to get any real news at all.
What we're actually exporting isn't democracy, but corporatism, so that big business (read: The Man) can sink its greedy fangs into yet more countries and suck them dry.
"We attack you for some reason that only really matters to us!"
"Well then, our ally, other country A attack you."
"In that case, our ally, other country B attacks them."
"Okay, then. Now their ally, other country C attacks your ally, other country B."
"Fine, but other country B's ally, other country D, is going to wreck other country C for it."
ETC.
(Only now, we have nukes. Which means it'll only be a matter of time before one of the world leaders screams "I'M NOT PLAYING WITH YOU ANY MORE!" And ragequits the war by turning everyone else into ashes. Then, he goes off to play with his action figures in the snow of the nuclear winter that he's caused.
... Or not, I hope. But one thing's for certain, it's gonna be a mess.)

We'll have a bit spare room if you let me know early...

(And, in case you don't know what stretch hummers are:

There is no limit to American vanity, it seems, for only we who are so shallow would be carted around the streets in even more pointlessly extravagant versions of a military vehicle. *sigh* )
Also, I don't mind that you make your country sound kind of Utopian. Let's not forget, if it were up to me, I wouldn't be living in the states either. I'd be in Australia or England... Or Canada, just not here. <<;
This essay written breifly after the 911 attacks helped shape my view on all this mess a good bit. It's got several key points that I think you'll agree with. And I don't really like to think when the end of the world will come ^^; Seems kinda depressing to me. Anywho, good luck at college. Wish me the same. College level Spanish is gonna kick my arse >_>
