Since i do art as a hobby, i won't be offended. Even if i was aiming to be a pofessional, i'd thank you for this, as it would help to advance.

i'm an amatuer, and i do plan to improve myself, and also change some stuff that i fit in to, but i don't think i'd go for a proffessional. i don't have much of an attention span, and i lack a lot of motivation. but i guess that can change in the future, so maybe one day. it'll be more of a side thing though. this was a truly an interesting read, and i swear i've seen it before :/

A pretty good article. In some ways the difference between who is an amateur and a professional is simply who 'makes it' to some extent. But you increase your chances of 'making it' exponentially through discipline, organization, tenacious self-promotion, and creativity.

i will admit. I am a amateur artist, but not to bad. Mainly on the medium focus. But its all part of the learning curriculum. Thanks for sharing.

I think the main thing people need to realize about this article is that it's not a "stab" at people for being an amateur. I think there's just a little too much value being placed in meaningless categories and labels. There's nothing wrong with being an amateur. The only time any of these things would be an issue is if you were going for doing whatever it is you do and trying to make a living off of it.

What this article is trying to do is point out that there is always room to improve on your craft and that, in general, there are some things to look out for and to try not to allow to happen to you. A guideline, if you will.


Just remember; an amateur ≠ a nobody.
