I just did this recently and just used the bleach that came with the coloring kit, and it didn't do a very good job, haha. I bleached it twice even and it still wasn't light enough. My hair is a darker brown, though.
I suggest doing it all at once if you can, otherwise you need to keep it separated for a while to make sure you color all the bleached hair, otherwise you'll have strands of random light hair.
I suggest buying the bleach and dye separate because the kits are garbage, but aside from that it should be easy. Tie up half (helps if you have someone else do this for you), bleach, wash, keep hair tied, let it dry, and color. Let the color sit in for longer than it says.

Thank you! I had a failed experience when I was 15, tried blue tips and bangs... Blue stayed a night even though it said it was permanent xD I don't want a super bright purple, I would be ok with it if it faded a bit. I'm gonna go see my friend Wednesday and she's going to help ^^ Hopefully this won't be an orange disaster like I had 6 years ago... LOL!!

But yeah you can't even tell I used purple hair dye and it's only been a month. Even after I did it it looked more pink than purple, too.

I use SPLAT hair dye/bleach and it works pretty damn well every time.

See I tried splat and thought it was trash, haha. Color was only bright in some spots, and I thoroughly saturated my hair with the color.

I've used splat for 3 years and I will always use splat. I've been dying my hair since 6th grade and I've used every hair dye.

Splat is permanent. It won't ever completely bleach out or wash out if you bleached it before you dyed it. If you attempt to bleach out splat you will more than likely end up with pink hair. Permanent black hair dye will bleach out before splat bleaches out.

Have someone help bleach your hair. The bleach it comes with works quickly!! If it isn't applied correctly, like any other bleach, the color won't be even. That won't be noticeable until it fades. The last time I dyed my hair purple was around December and it's still a pretty good purple.

Everything you own will be purple! All of your skin will be purple if you aren't careful and it will take DAYS to fade. All of your sheets, pillows, towels, shirt collars, will be purple. Same if you used splat blue. After about 4-5 washes it will stop doing that. At that time it will be at it's peak brightness.

When I dye my hair, as I am in the next few days also, I use 2 boxes for my shoulder-length hair and anything longer would take 3 boxes. If you think you have thicker than normal hair it's best to air on the side of caution and get an extra box.

I put some vaseline around my hair line and my ears, use pro rubber gloves and throw down tarps. It does wash off pretty easy if you get it on anything in your bathroom like painted walls or tile. I let it set overnight in plastic bags and wash it out the next morning.

If you sweat in your fursuit chances are your hair will bleed if you haven't got enough washes into it so wear a balaclava if you don't already, maybe a sweat band. The inside of my resin mask is stained purple.

yea it should be fine just wash it good and don't wear anything you don't want to be purple until it dries.

What is the appeal of changing hair colors? Even changing to a regular color like blonde looks so wrong and fake.

It's fun :D I am actually pretty big on not being fake, I NEVER wear makeup, except for mascara for special occasions. I'm a stay at home mom right now, and I've ALWAYS been curious to put color in my hair... So why not now? I'm not out to impress anyone, my boyfriend doesn't mind, and it will make me happy :)

Excellent choice by choosing to be makeup free. You are saving so much money and won't get cancer from the crap.
