That's what this weekend will be.
First, the bad news: Genus #89, the one we just sent to the printer mere days ago, will *not* be coming out in a few weeks. It will be resolicited for December 2008 (the month we just sent solicitation information for to Diamond) What has happened is that on our last few months of purchase orders, we had these incredibly loooong cutoff dates. "How odd!" we thought, but it certainly worked to our advantage due to con season and having to move. Well, not so much, since apparently the cutoff dates weren't *supposed* to be that long. Thus, while we thought we had time to ship this book, the Diamond system corrected itself, and so we were informed the purchase order for that issue of Genus had already expired. But, the bright sunny part is that Diamond wants to carry Genus very much (it sells well for them), so they are working with us to make sure it still happens. This will also probably mean some monthly issues of Genus in early 2009 to get caught up. So, it works out for everyone! (And no, I am not mad at Diamond at all, we were the ones who should have paid better attention to the weirdness of the extra-long purchase order cutoff dates...)
The corrected cutoff dates also mean we have to bust our behinds to get the next two books in on Monday, August 18th. Those books are Furrlough #185, in the awesome new 48-page format, and Hit the Beach #14. (Going by the old, incorrect dates we had a couple of extra weeks, which I should have known was not accurate, as it gave us lots of extra time!) Sadly, this date-shifting means that the last couple issues of Milk are going to be published on the SinFactoryComix.com (NSFW!) site instead of in dead tree form. It's too bad, but there's no point in cancelling and resoliciting the last two issues of a series. (Milk was already scheduled to move to the web anyway after issue #65- instead, the dead tree forms were going to be done as specials and one-shots every so often, a la "Milk Presents" and "Milk Spotlight On", so this isn't a major change in plans. I'm excited about this, since it will keep the name out there and also keep it fresh. Plus, the web is really the future of comics.)
I'm very excited about the new format for Furrlough since it means the artists can do longer story chapters if they so choose- no more trying to edit something down into 8 page chunks. A 22-page chunk totally wouldn't be out of the question. It does means fewer covers per year though, since it is going to be on a bimonthly schedule. (It'd be downright impossible to fill 48 pages every month!) We're also still working on getting the boring backend of web hosting set up to lay the groundwork for the new RadioComix.com site- where we intend to have a lot of comics archived for free (it'll have ads for revenue), as well as a place to debut new content that we want to publish in dead tree format later. Did I mention the web is the future of comics?
Anyway, tons to do rescheduling stuff and getting these two books prepped and ready for the printers. Figured I should post about it though, so people would know what's going on. ^_^ Busy and hectic, as always!
