Meh, the article says it won't be canon (obviously) so it shouldn't matter really.
If people liked them for their personalities instead of their traits (flying, magic etc) then they should like it either way.
It's not like they won't continue the FIM series so if people do complain they are just spoiled little trolls.

But still, it's a rumor I'd say. That article has a gigantic inconsistency: It says the series will be airing in the Spring...yet Hasbro said they'd be *revealing* the series in the summer, at SDCC. Seems legit.

At least it won't affect the original show.

Interestingly enough, it could have some basis in MLP canon and history. In Gen 1 and 2 and in the movie, the ponies traveled to Earth and met their special human friends. I could see a cross-dimensional thing Twilight does that causes them to swap realities and take on human form. Of course that would almost be a mini-series within the main series and would see the girls focus on getting home.

Well, the very same article stating that this is not going to interfere with the main series quells any issues I personally might have had with it.

All big name series have spin offs and honestly, the fact that FiM is getting a spin off series is proof to it's staying power.
