Shitty, good luck in the recovery!!

im in the process of it still today it officaially happend 2 weeks after i got a replacement comp

if its a mechanical failure the plate is probably still intact and the data is there you just need to have someone who knows what their doing recover the plates and get them into a new drive to harvest your data. I know if the drive doesnt spin or you have trouble reading with firmware and things your data is safe just not accessable


if its an actual data issue you can try http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/TestDisk this then move from there to bring it to someone who specializes in data recovery. photos are usually not too fragmented and unless something changes in the headers of the files themselves their usually intact even if the system identifying them is not.

its data fiure caused by mechanical error. i fixed the mechanical problem now the fun of data recovery ^^ when it comess to softwear give me tiem ian i ca do anythign with it

thats good you fixed your problem. I know that program saved my rear when I had my issues. From what I read it goes all the way to relying on your MFT for its work so if your MFT is screwed your probably looking into forensic work which plays chemist with the clusters and tries to put it together.

Thank god though its only 15 gigs though. These days thats almost nothing

its still going to take a long time for me to have ti restored beign ti was a 20gb harddrive almost full

not too long I hope. That program took about 20 minutes to run through all the clusters on my 320 which was 90% full. I had about 200 gigs of data to copy and on my new SATA drive it took about 14 or 15 hours to finish completely so take it from there on yours. If you have the space its probably better to move the data onto your current drive(s) then look at tossing that small of a drive if its a 3.5 inch.


you might also wanna run fixboot and fixmbr from a Windows XP disk's recovery console so your compy properly recognizes the drive.

fixboot is part of the windows XP disk itself (it gives you a "press R for recovery" when you run it and then once you select your drive you run those two commands on the prompt). Other than formatting its the only way you can get a drive to be properly recognized in windows. If you don't have a true XP disk you need to get one. Its why I pretty much hate those recovery disks. You need to check as well if that "recovery disk" of yours has the XP recovery console however as some may have it. I don't know what your computer is though so i cant go any further This works for any windows system.

Other than that your pretty much going to have to reformat or use a rescue remix program to fix your drive. Or pay for a forensic recovery
