Interestingly, most of my cousins were male too (10/12)...

Only two girl cousins in the whole lot. One of them was my sister.

What's odd, in the new generation, there's only one boy.

3. Extended Family: Stepsister (older by six months, moved in ~junior high, moved out when I went to college), some adult stepsiblings I've barely met. Many cousins both older and younger; used to see them all the time at family gatherings, but those seemed to evaporate when Grandma and Grandpa died. (Paternal grandparents; maternal grandparents are alive and well, but I seldom see extended family from that side.)

* Technically I do have half siblings that I never met, and for a few years had step brothers(that didn't live with me) and step cousins, but I never considered any of them family.

Do you not consider them family because of not getting along with them (disliking them) or because you never really interacted with them in a family context (unfamiliarity)?

For half siblings it's simply a matter of complete lack of contact. As for the step family I had for only a few years, it's a combination of hatred for that whole family and semi limited contact. Only got along with a small portion of my extended step family, either my second or third cousin and their immediate family.

And the step family hatred was more than mutual. They wanted to cause problems from the start.

Only a few. There were nine kids in my dad's family and seven in my mom's. They're spread out all over the US and Canada so we don't see most of them very often.

This is indeed a most fascinating journal and, for me, helps me to more understand why I am who I am. Thanks for the idea and I hope you get all sorts of great results. :)

For me, I am the oldest child in my family by three 3 years. I have a sister who, like me, was born with congenital glaucoma.

As for relations, I would say I am more the middle-aged cousin in my family. Though, I was never close to any of my cousins save the one who is just now about to graduate from college and go on for her Masters. I didn't ever get to see her much, but she is cool and fun as opposed to my other cousins in which I'd rather not get into.

2. sister older by about 3 years, brother older by about 6 years, step sister younger by a few years but did not grow up together she only came for visits and did not enter my life till i was in my teens. Had other step siblings all older when I was a little kid 3 of them 1 s-s barely older 1 s-s about my real sisters age and 1 s-b about my real brothers age.

3.Lots and lots of cousins only one that was younger when I was little then a few more that were born when I was a teen, otherwise ranging in age from sisters age to grown ups. Visited more when I was little but stopped by my age of 12 maybe. By that point most cousins moved on to grown up things.

Yeah, I thought so too! At least until all of these younger siblings started responding to this survey in contradiction of my own anecdotal evidence... *surprise*

Still, I never really expected for all of us to be older siblings - I just knew myself and many others to be. I didn't know, for example, that MJ had both older and younger siblings, but that's part of the fun of studying the correlations between babyfurhood and my hypothetical connection to being around younger people all the time who take your attention away (I'm sure there are other causes though)
