The journal you linked to isn't the story as told by the indivdual in question and as such can at best be considered heresay. Beyond this, the drastically limited amount of information available at all suggests that this was a far smaller matter than the journal indicates. Combine this with the fact that Dragoneer and the rest of the staff (hell the site itself) have all manner of people just looking for an excuse to tear it down or drag people away and you have a pretty volitile situation that can arise from just about any minor incident... not to say that stalking is minor, but from what limited official details are being released, it sounds like it's just basic drama to me. For all we know, the issue could be that it was indeed very minor and the individual's friend decided to get whipped into a frenzy to rail against the machine as it were.
From what I understand, most of the stalking occurred off-site... so... what should anyone expect FA to do about it? They have no pervue there. And you cannot take behavior recorded or seen elsewhere and apply punishment for it when it has not occurred within a particular site's community. This isn't a matter of extradition of a criminal from/to a foreign country. This is the internet. The only thing they can do is gather the evidence and should the person responsible break the rules in the same way on this site, they be dealt with accordingly, and have the record of behavior elsewhere taken into consideration. From what I understand... what happened here on FA did not amount to an infraction worthy of a ban.
All it sounds like to me is a flame war meant to try and drag the admins in either to alienate a single fur for whatever reason, or to just give the FA haters a reason to rattle the cages. It sounds to me like furries being furries.
The victim wrote the journal to warn other furries about the stalker, as the stalker had dug up name and address of the victim and posting it online. It was also a cry for help from the victim.
The admins deleted the victim's journal without contacting the victim, despite the victim (and several other people, including Qarrezel) having sent more than one trouble ticket to the admins, that the admins hadn't even looked at, at the time of deleting the journal. The victim asked to see the deleted journal, as it contained information useful to her, but no admin contacted her to help her with this.
The stalker had posted several replies, within the very journal that was deleted, so proof of harassment were evident, right in front of the eyes of the admins who deleted the journal.
The posts from the stalker, within the deleted journal should have been enough to have the admins take action against him, right there and then. And they should also have contacted the victim, instead of leaving her in the dark, as to why her plea for help were removed.
I've been following the issue for a while, and it was clearly the case of a stalker and a victim, for a long time, before the FA admins just decided to stomp on the fingers of the victim.
The stalker lives 60 minutes away from where I live, and I have been noticing him around on online places for a few years now. And while I do not know the victim, I am a friend of her friends, so the entire thing is feeling a bit close to me.
This is a lot more than just furries being furries. If I had not known anything about the issue in question, I probably would have felt like you do, though, so yeah, I understand you.
