Millennium Park Fursuit Outing (My first furmeet Pt 2)
General
Ok went to my first fursuit/furmeet ... *I don't own a suit*
no badge... ya get the idea.. but after much prodding
by
Dyandod aka
timothy_rat because of me being
reluctant to do so in the past.
The drive down from Kenosha to Grant Park was not too bad.. I took
an alternate route to avoid tolls. Made it down there at 1:45 pm
took about 10 mins to park they were on the 2nd level and me on
the 3rd level but I had never parked at Millennium Garages (even
though I'm originally from Chicago) but anyway after they got
suited up, we came out the Columbus street exit went towards
Michigan street cars were honking their horns to acknowledge the
presence of the fursuiters. So at this point me and
blackcat2086 and another fur became the handlers. (If I can
find out who that was I'll update this journal my apologies)
I've never been a handler but I did my best as could as we had
started with 6 fursuiters and then later 8!
People on their way to millennium park stopped to take pictures of
and with the fursuiters.
On Michigan we headed south on the park side.. some guys wanted to
know what/why the fursuiters were downtown as they were headed to
the AutoShow and thought we were headed that way. They thought
our group was so cool they wanted to hang out with us!
We were headed down to Columbia College to the writing dept..
timothy_rat was featured in a magazine article and we were
going there I guess to contact the editor or columnist that did
the article. But no such luck as we were not sure where that dept
was located. I asked security in the College but he informed me
the campus is made up of 20 or more different locations so. The
others waited outside as I didn't know how the security guard
would have reacted to them being inside the campus building. We
ran out of time getting down there and the office closed at 3 so
went back North on the building side of Michigan. People in the
restaurant and coffee shop windows were waving taking pics etc.
Got back to Millennium park and caught up with
alphilonius
synthwolf and
vinter who was suiting as Clove cat.
We started heading toward the "Crown Fountain" interactive display
and then onto the Cloud Gate aka "The Bean"
It was like instant celebrity status for the fursuiters.. tourists
wanted pictures of and with them. What was cool how people were
reluctant at first to take a picture with them warmed up to the
fursuiters as soon others started doing so. And it was like a
domino effect lots of group shots with them!
Also at first it seem we might get asked to leave as the activity
naturally attracted security to monitor our presence there.
racsonracsonracs and I re-assured them we were not there to
promote or sell anything and as long as we were not bothering
anyone we could stay.
At times it seemed I was the honorary spokesfurson for the group
as people asked me was this connected with anything. I just
merely explained that the group decided for a get-together here
and wanted to hang out while wearing the suits created by them and
for them. And were here to have some fun and spread a little good
cheer to the public.
I didn't mind at all. I hope all that were there didn't.
Went by the ice rink took some group photos there and then made
our "escape route" so to speak near the Petrillo Band shell to the
walkway bridge and took a few more photos.. also wave at traffic
and some of the locals and tourist below looked up to take video
and pictures of the group. All in all that day was a good day!
Thank you
