"Though our Senate controls and creates laws of the Republic, but we must regulate it in order to enact the Separation of Powers that our Fore Founders have wanted, we must regulate it so that it cannot overpower, so we will add the Statue of Limitations, and with approval from the Courts we will make the Senate Powers limited in order to prevent an overthrow of political power in the Galactic Republic of Tretris"
-Chancellor Florence proposal to the Statue of Limitations in 2290
The Statue of Limitations or the Senate Limitations were added to the Republic Charter during the founding of the Galactic Republic, but were removed in order for the Republic to win the System Wars. During the years following, the Senate began to become more and more powerful as the Republic expanded. They soon began to overrule the Royal Family's decisions and even the courts. By the early 2000's the Royal Family and the Courts were already in control of the Senate, this growing power soon to be a dangerous situation. When the last Chancellor in 2280 passed away, Chancellor Florence the same Chancellor that enacted the Destruction of Centennial City of 2304, pushed many star systems to give less control to the Senate. By 2288, Chancellor Florence going under the radar from the Senate, proposed to re-enact the Statue of Limitations to the Senate. If the act were to succeed then the Senate would return all of its power to the Courts and Executive Branch. On August 17th, 2290, the Galactic Court along with Chancellor Florence, amended the Republic Charter to re-enact Section 4 of Article 2, or The Statue of Limitations. When this reached word to the Senate, they were forced to submit or face immediate exile or punishment by Republic Law. Following right after the next year the Courts and the Executive Branch were given back control of their duties and the Separation of Powers that Fore Founders wanted was kept in check.
Following right after the amending of the Act of Succession to the Charter, the Senate with a secret party wanted to remove the Statue of Limitations due to the outrage of the Centennial City Disaster. However the next in line Chancellor, Chancellor Jovus later proved that even though Senate tries to bring peace to the Galaxy they cannot overthrow the other branches of the Republic to do it. In the end the Republic Senate or now Galactic Senate still abides to the Statue of Limitations, though some still believe it should be removed, but it was added to keep the Republic balanced.
