Try it the next time you say something completely stupid. It always seems to work for politicians and celebrities:
"...I [Your Name] do deeply appologize if my comments and/or actions concerning [subject of controversy] has offended anybody. It was not my intention to offend [target audience and/or person/group that has been offended]....[Insert filler bullsquab here.]...My words have been taken entirely out of context. This is all [specific media outlet]'s/s' fault!"

apolegies are only worth anything if you mean it sincerely; sincerity and politics go together like sunlight and vampires
