I have no remorse over what I charge anymore. I really REALLY do not.
I keep my prices reasonably affordable to most of my basic clientele.
This however is a prime example of why I fly into a RAGE when people tell me i'm too expensive.
Because i used to WORK in this industry. I am still trying to work in this industry. And it makes me want to claw the everloving crap out of people who have no concept of what art is actually priced at to sit atop thier little pillar and tell me I'm too expensive.
Also for those of you who don't know, I make a living, a LIVING doing artwork for people. I have the best occupation ever, i love it. Litterally 100% of my income is commissions.

Still, I saw this yesterday too; a pretty sobering thought for anyone whether they buy commissions or not.
Still way more than typical fan prices, though.
Then again, there's a lot to be said about the game industry which, well, .... sometimes make it a bit of an unenviable one to work in :p
besides, those who complain at even a few green for colour work are usually not those who would buy a comission at all.
Still, I agree, for what we usually pay most of those "industry artist" wouldn't even lift a pencil.
Paying that much for 'industry' artwork also includes full copy-right to the image, along with the artist redrawing everything if something isn't up to their standards.
I do agree artists in the fandom charge less than they 'should', but people are not paying for the exact same thing.
this isn't a remark on foxena's prices or anyone else's, and whether it's high or low. artwork IS work, and artists should be paid what's fair. i only issue caution comparing the two. they are not the same animal at all.
While the furry market is to obtain something to look at, the professional market is to create visuals that will assist selling something. The clients buy art to make money.
Does this mean that fandom artists charge too much?
Not at all.
Any work is priced at the rate the artist is comfortable with. With the time put into a lot of pieces of fandom art, the artist is often not even making anything close to minimum wage. Not to mention time spent promoting, sending art out, getting art supplies, research, etc.
It's been a few years since I've seen the Artist Guild HoPEG, but I'd bet that those are starting prices for restricted use for a limited time. As even years ago, full copyright would easily run into 5 figures.
oh and you are usually faster then most industry standard commissions too.
If you need additional ammo however, I found this as well.
