I'm going to FWA. So what kind of stuff is there around the convention area to do? And generally what is Atlanta like? Busy? Chill? Is there cool architecture and buildings around?

Well, talking in generalities, Atlanta's a business city, but it's got some cool things.

As far as "things to do" in close proximity, not a whole lot, besides restaurants and some clubs. Attractions nearby: http://www.westinpeachtreeplazaatlanta.com/atlanta-attractions

Most of the cool architecture is scattered eastward and northeast of midtown Atlanta, not much to see south of the hotel (but Grant Park is a nice area just to hang out) . Like I said, lots of restaurants, a bunch of clubs (depending on your taste) most not more than a mile or two away from the hotel.

MARTA (transit) will get you most places by bus for cheaps, not that I think people are going to venture more than a mile or two from the con except for dinner and whatnot.

I'm not much of a tour guide, but I know where to find it if you know what you want!
