SimCity 2013

- The Good -
It is a good game, it's a nice way to kill a lot of time, it's beautiful to look at & watch running
- The Bad -
Being able to play it when you want to play it, always online, even if your playing solo
- The Ugly -
EA yet again wants to destroy yet another game company under them, this time being Maxis
- IMOHO -
Don't buy this game, at least right away, wait 'till they fix the servers which aren't able to handle all the people playing it

New game, same situation, only this time people who already paid for the game are willing to get a cracked version, just so they can play it without the always online BS that EA thinks everyone wants.....
but when it comes to the PC only market, they kind want it to go away.
EA, yea, that's their MO, PC's are too hard to code for, they change every other day, Consoles are stable, and easier to code for......
Well, 'till they bring out a new Console, like the PS4, if it can do half the things they show that it can, time for all new coding.....
Yea, nice logic there EA, yup
Maxis need to just cut off from them & we might see them return to the way they used to be, as long as they are part of EA, we can kiss them good-bye
Westwood Studios, Bullfrog, and pretty much every developer that EA has made contact with became no more Maxis will just be another victim of EA
Typical, and it might just be the game that put them on the map in the first place that will be the end of them, sad really
Will Wright knew it was time to go, they took his baby SPORE and f-ed it up big time by dumbing it way down and kid-i-fying it to aim at more casual players
As Will presented it to all out there it could of been a real game changer w/ all it's ideas as presented, Will wanted it to be crazy in-depth
Granted it's a fun game, but the real potential was never realized once EA decided it needed to be watered down for everyone else to play
You think the folks the cracked Spore's DRM lock on day one would be doing the same now, I bet they are currently making one as we speak
So all of EA's measures to stop pirates are only hurting the folks that actually buy the game
Ultimatly it's as if EA wants SimCity to fail "See no one really likes these kinds of games" and the name Maxis will be no more
EA will then go on to make The Sims 3 Expansion Pack # 346512 seeing as the love that franchise to heck & back
I bought the base game of The Sims 3 & promptly gave it to my brother on Xmas as a present as it left a bitter taste in my mouth of we have to buy all the expansions YET again, now the difference was there from Sims 1 & Sims 2, but Sims 3 just looked like Sims 2, only with the ability to control a whole neighbor hood, not really a step forward, more like a step sideways, it looked the same it felt the same, sure, no loading screens between houses, but beyond that it felt more like The Sims 2.2 (or whatever number they were last on build wise) not The Sims 3, not a huge leap in tech, The Sims themselves looked about the same as in Sims 2, as did the homes, as did game on the whole, put furniture at angles, who cares, you could mod Sims 2 & do that, no big deal
After that I promised not to buy anything w/ EA's name on it, then here comes SimCity MAXIS name everywhere, EA's as well, but they were using the Maxis name as a gesture of good will to the fans of SimCity, it was hey SimCity is back & Maxis is making it it'll be better then that fail bomb SimCity Societies that Maxis was in no way involved with.... I only got SCS when it came in a box w/ SC4, it was on sale, couldn't pass it up, pretty cheap to only $20.00
I know I have SC4 already but this was the DELUXE version of SC4, and on sale, so kinda did it for that reason, heh heh heh heh heh heh
So far what has happened this week alone makes me think the following "This could well be the very last SimCity game ever" EA screwed the pooch with all this always on-line even IF it's a single player game, we don't care we have this new service that's like Steam, only it's not, we're gonna make all our games that way, it's astounding to me that long before this was said the new SimCity was years in development, then ONLY after the head honco of EA makes this statement suddenly SimCity has to be online, wait, why ?
Because of multi-player..... But the series has NEVER been multi-player before, why suddenly it has to be NOW ? Not because Maxis wanted that, the head honcho of EA wants it, for ALL of games under EA's banner, even if in the end it means we have to say good bye to Maxis, as you know EA will never admit they pulled a boner, the head honco of EA said to do this regardless of what happens to anyone under their name, all the blame will be put on Maxis, that's what EA wants, no more Maxis no more SimCity, because no one likes THOSE kinds of games, right ?
Everyone wants to play Multi-player even if they've played solo games for years before there was anything like the internet around....
A billion dollar company can not be wrong after all, yes ?
EA won't patch it to work under Win 8, they'll just say buy TS3 and you won't have issues then, guh
Yes, SimCity's launch was anything but smooth, EA said themselves "THIS WON'T BE ANYTHING LIKE D3's LAUNCH" and you know what they were right, it was far worse, as if that wasn't possible, somehow it was, go fig, I got on, but I think it was because I had a disk to install, didn't have to wait to download it like folks who got a digital copy, I was thinking there's no way in hell I'm gonna download a digital version, no matter how many bells & whistles it had on it.....
In this day of buy it before you even try it, I'm the odd man out I guess, funny thing with 3 beta tests you'd expect less issues for launch day.....
Nope, no one could download, let alone play, so the lesson here, don't pre-order any game sight unseen
AND if you do, but think it's okay for game companies to pull this stunt again & again with the excuse "We didn't expect so many players" then they didn't count the numbers of pre-orders did they to figure this out BEFORE launch day ?
I for one call shenanigans, and not good ones at that
I got a disk, can't return that, but I can uninstall, but EA will only let you reinstall only so many times before the ban-hammer comes down, so I gotta keep it on my HD, so I will, but won't play it, not that I can anyway as it stands, but it'll stay right there to remind me of when Maxis used to be great.....
EA doesn't want to give folks a refund for one reason, GREED, they got your money they want to keep it, bad servers be damned
There is a good game under there, but it's hard to get at due to EA's short sightedness bottom line of get it out quickly as you can & make it online only
The Pirates win again, they get to play this game just fine, while the ligit people who bought it can't play it at all
EA wonders why folks pirate PC games, for this very reason, folks can't even play the dang thing, these pirates can however
DRM, always online only hurts the ligit people, not the pirates, the pirates are like, uncrackable ? Challenge accepted, and a few days later presto
No amount of safeguards will stop the pirates from doing so, they see it as the gauntlet being thrown down, as if on a dare to crack this new DRM
Then they do just that in what seems like no time at all, yet the game companies never seem to learn this at all, instead more invasive DRM is dreamed up
The more pirates will see this as a challenge to their hacking skill, it's an endless cycle and the one who pays for all this is the ligit user in the end
A more insane catch 22 could never be dreamed up
Not to support EA's move to put every game they own online, that's a different matter, going by the pics I took of the box, you would of noticed I tried to hide EA's name on it, I think I did that without thinking about it, but after this week, I think I knew what was going to come down before it happened
All the negative reviews out there do not paint a rosy picture, but at least the blame is where it belongs w/ EA's service, not the actual game itself, which is how it should be, but you know if the trend continues someone somewhere at EA will say it was Maxis' idea, then Maxis will say it was EA's then we can say good-bye to Maxis as EA will just fire everyone at Maxis and call it a day then take the blame for their horrible online only idea
You know that it will happen, I know it will happen, it's only a matter of time when it will happen
WHEN YOU CAN PLAY IT
We don't have a choice to play it when we want to, only when EA's so called service lets you in to play it
"Your City, Your Way" more like "Our Game, Our Way"
And ligit customers thinking of getting a cracked version just to be able to play it when they want to
This does not bode well at all
I'm waiting for the storm to die down first see if someone saves this game.....
If not, I'll be playing solo for a long time....
As it stands all I can do is play alone as none of the online stuff works due to EA's servers being garbage.....
Ya' really gotta wonder about their motives.....
